Restaurante Azúcar — Restaurant in Quintana Roo

It was my first night in Cancun since I’m staying in the hotel zone and don’t wanna go all the way out to the Centro again, so I chose this walking-distance restaurant. The decorating was nice, people were friendly and I think the manager was serving me since he can understand the speak English very well. Their food was good, but the portion is super small and EXPENSIVE! 3 dishes(1 entree, 1 appetizer and 1 salad) the total was more than $100 USD!!! It’s even more expensive than the U.S.!!! I can get the same food for 30% cheaper with the same decorating, same service in the U.S. And last but not least, they added 20% propina(tips) on the bill like it’s mandatory. Overall I think it’s more of a place for special events or occasions if you don’t mind paying more than what...

I can only hope tonight was an abhorrent aberration in contrast to others experience. It took one hour from arrival and seating before a very simple martini order was placed. Party of 8 with reservations. They knew we were coming. The bartender was lost in the clouds with organization or priority to drink orders. Food was either very tasty with some presentations or a disaster. No middle ground. Fish dishes were overcooked and tough enough to require a steak knife. Further, they were lukewarm to cold. I haven’t figured out how you can overcook something and have it served cold short of kitchen neglect. I seriously hope this was just one of those dinners that was out of sync, because if not this place...

Went here because of the postive reviews, left very dissapointed. We first ordered two glasses of white wine. It tasted like te bottle had been open for some time and the wine wasn't even cold.. the salmon was overcooked and all you could taste was honey. Honey wasn't even in the description of the course.. I had schrimps in garlic, they were allright but blend. Had better in every other place in Mexico. Waiter doesn't even asks how the food was/is (probably because he knows the answer.) To top it all off they dicide their own tip which they will put on the bill and try to hide from you by covering it with their fingers. I would have tipped now I just feel robbed....
