For the price you pay, the Ibis is an okay deal - We got a good air conditioned room. If all you're going to do is sleep there, you'll be okay.
Note though - There is no fridge. There are also no power points by your bedside. There is also no clock. This means we were charging our phones on the other side of the room and in our bathroom.
Our room was only cleaned twice in the 7 days we were there - We would leave in the morning and come back in the afternoon and to our disappointment the room still wouldn't be clean - We would lie down to have a siesta around 4ish, and no doubt the cleaner would knock probably around 5ish to see if we wanted our room clean... We found this kind of annoying - They always seemed to be cleaning rooms around us in the mornings when we were leaving to go out, but for some reason would skip ours till the afternoon when we were trying to rest.
There are also no soaps provided in the bathroom or shower - instead there's a wall mounted liquid soap dispenser; use at your own risk!
Our bed was comfy, but on the smaller side for us as a couple. It was adequate.
Some real positives though: there's a large Walmart practically in the lobby selling everything you'd need including fresh fruits and vegetables - Just a shame you don't have a fridge! The water we purchased stayed cool enough in our air conditioned room though. We picked up soap for our bathroom and shower too.
You're also within walking distance of Plaza Las Americas (literally across the road, 2min walk) - which is actually two great shopping malls joined together. Being in downtown (ie, not the hotel district) it's where all the locals shop. There's also a cinema that shows both Spanish and English movies (look for "Sub" to know what movies are in English) Good food court too.
The touristy hotel strip and beach is only a short, cheap taxi ride away - about 15mins away. Again, you're paying a great price for Ibis, and nothing like what they're paying only 15mins away on the main hotel strip across the bay.

Read moreI tried to share my review previously and it seems it was taken down. I do want to discourage anyone, this is my experience. My review does not only come because I’ve been there once I’ve now given this hotel my business twice to see if there was a difference. The first time I stayed in ibis Was April, the room was small. That didn’t bother me. It was quiet. The room was sort of clean, anything that was still dirty I cleaned myself, no big deal. What bothered me was, I paid for breakfast for the whole duration that I was there and it was not honored, nor was it stated that it was on my reservation, even though I had paid for it, Until this day, I was not reimbursed for it. I left that issue alone. I stayed at ibis This month, which is May, and this was probably the last straw for me. Not only was the room dirty, but it smelled moldy, and the floors were wet the whole time I was there. There was condensation on the windows on the walls, which could have built up mold in the room. I left for the day to see if the room will dry because maybe they’ve cleaned it right before I entered and it still was wet everywhere. I turned on the air condition and that did not work AT ALL. It had weird noises coming out, it was broken. So, I slept in a hot and stuffy room that was wet everywhere. The only thing I can say was it was quiet. I will not stay here again. I have a video of house the AC sounded if...
Read moreThe staff here seem much kinder than other Ibis I've been to or who knows I am mistaken or 'selected a tasteless choice' just as the Ibis advertisement of an animation with eyeless, noseless, mouthless customers. 1st given room's AC didn't work. 2nd room's AC worked with the same system and buttons on the wall. Keycards on both rooms had green lights every time but had to be used several times in order for the doorknob to open which might give other customers about you any wrong impression other than wasting a bit more seconds or a minute. 2 large towels in the bathroom. At least it's a keycard not a door number code unlike Ibis in Toulouse France. I wondered whether the Ibis hotel's system was illegally hacked and customers were bullied to have their keycard green light yet unopening errors. There were other weird signs such as the faceless people animation Ibis advertisement behind the receptionist desk at the lobby as if customers at this Ibis lack good eyesight or don't talk. Now I want to check out sooner what should I do, ask for a refund? Phew Mexico is written as 墨西哥 in Chinese, and Cancun as 坎昆. I thought perhaps there were ingenious ancient people who analyzed lands when they named them or the characters chosen as the names shaped the culture of the nation along the centuries. Then there are people whose names have wonderful meanings but those are others and there are hidden...
