I'm on a motorcycle tour. At check-in, I asked if they had motorcycle parking, and they did. The bellman opened a different entrance, and I parked my motorcycle in an unused portion of the hotel. He brought me a cart, and I moved my luggage up to the room. Great service! After I settled in, I checked the Internet. It didn't work. Not great.
I walked down to reception and asked about the Internet. She said it was inoperable. Lesson learned here for me to always ask about Internet service before booking a room. I struggled to book a city tour for an hour afterward.
While booking the tour, I realized that I would have to check out early. I asked the receptionist if they had availability for the next night. She said no. I asked if I could leave my motorcycle parked in the hotel until late in the afternoon. She said that would not be a problem. Great!
The next morning, I walked down to the lobby to sequester a cart. The daytime bellman gave me a nasty look as I walked away with it. I grabbed my luggage and headed back downstairs.
The motorcycle was accessible via a staff door. The bell man came running up and stood directly in front of me, blocking my path. He said, "You're can't go in there." He could have approached me, a guest, in a more pleasant manner instead of a confrontational one.
I said, "I'm a guest. You saw me come down and get this cart. My motorcycle is parked in the other room. I am loading my luggage. I have used the door several times." At this point, I realized that no one had communicated to him a situation outside of normal operating procedure.
He stepped aside, and I proceeded to navigate the route to my motorcycle. He followed me the entire way, hawking my every move. I unloaded the cart and pushed it over to him. He stood and watched me load my motorcycle with luggage for several minutes, and then walked away. I heard him tell another staff member to keep an eye on me. A lady appeared from around the corner. She too just stood there and hawked me for several minutes until the gentlemen returned. He jangled keys in his hand and headed towards the entrance that was opened for me the day prior.
I explained to him that I am not checking out and that my motorcycle would remain parked here until my return later in the afternoon. This had been discussed and approved by reception the day before. He stood there and hawked me for the remainder of the time it took to load my motorcycle - probably 15 minutes in total.
I have never felt so...
Read moreReally fabulous location for seeing El Centro historic area - we loved it! Also, the hotel itself is 400 years old and a true classic from another era. But, it has its own set of problems as follows.||||If you need an elevator, this could be a problem. The one they do have is not only extremely slow, but frequently fails to function - depending on who used it last. We had to climb the stairs to the top floor many times during our stay.||||The safes in the rooms do not function, so hang on to your valuables. Also, you only get one room key (and it has your room number and the name of the hotel on it).||||Also, the room key failed to work on four separate occasions necessitating a long trip (sometimes climb) to and from the front desk.||||If you like live music, the hotel offers up an evening bandstand. On the downside, it can be very, very loud especially on Friday nights. Sleep is not an option until well after 11 p.m.||||We complained of a chirping smoke alarm on two occasions, but it was never fixed even a week later.||||Flat screen television was nice and Direct TV provided a couple of English channels, but oftentimes a message appeared saying these were not available. Chance to brush up on your Spanish though.||||Front desk service was not good. Not quick to offer help or sympathy or even a short apology for failures - perhaps language barriers were an issue here? The one notable exception was Alfonso who did speak pretty good English and was indeed quick to offer assistance.||||And finally, the hotel has not been refurbished for a long time and shows it. The rooms are functional but somewhat threadbare and two-star quality.||||In spite of the problems mentioned, my wife did enjoy our eight day stay there. The price was reasonable and the location simply terrific. Being on foot was not a problem as everything we wanted to see was so close. And the history is charming. ||||So, if you can get past the inconveniences, attitude, and lack of creature comforts, it is a great place to stay - that is why we ranked it a four star.||||My wife and I plan...
Read moreI loved this hotel. I had so many friends ask me what hotel it was when I'd post photos. It was old and beautiful. The elevator was cool and the room was very large. It was very refreshing from our stay the nights before at Doubletree down the street. There was a large window with a TINY balcony. Literally just for your feet but it was soo cool to look outside. It even had a small room when you walked in with a couch. Then it leads you to a next room with the beds.(4 people room). They had a huge fan on the top and 2 other ones to plug in but we were fine during the night. My mom liked the tiny room with the couch, had a break from all of us for a bit . The bellhop was super friendly and explained some safety tips, the front desk staff also talked to us a bit before going up to our room. The price was great and felt safe. There is a terrace if you want to go up there. The patio furniture is super outdated and old but we took some dinner up there and had a nice Thanksgiving. The view was nice enough and we noticed some rooms up there that had a jacuzzi. Would have loved to check those out. When you go in and out of the elevator you have make sure to close both doors. This is definitely going to be the hotel I book next time. It is centrally located and super close to the pink Guadalajara sign that everyone likes to take photos at but also close to many other places. Also, easy to get picked up and dropped off. Some hotels are pedestrian only entrances and a hassle to get your uber/taxi. This place isn't as crowded in the front and cars are able to pull off to the side of the hotel to quickly drop you off and pick you up ....
