My family has been going to Hotel María Cristina for over twenty years and I had the pleasure of going recently for the first time in a while. Although there are some parts of the hotel that are a bit outdated (some of the rooms could use some updating), the hotel itself is beautiful, especially the garden and the reception area, and I think that adds to the unique charm of the hotel. However, the ultimate reason why I love this hotel and will continue to come back to it for the next twenty years is the staff—everyone was so warm and friendly as I remembered them from my childhood, and took the time to ask us how we were doing and how our travels were going (we flew in and out of Benito Juarez Airport and stayed at María Cristina on both ends). They especially went above and beyond to make sure my 83 year-old grandmother was comfortable, which I really appreciated. It’s also a great location—down the block from some good restaurants, quiet but still walkable (if you enjoy a decent walk, and we did one evening) to the Zócalo and other attractions, and a 30 minute drive or taxi ride to Coyoacán, where La Casa Azul is located, Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the airport. Likely not a typical attraction when visiting CDMX, but I’d recommend visiting the Museo Casa de Carranza at the end of the block—the architecture is stunning and it shares an important and interesting snapshot of the time around the...
Read moreI have stayed at the Maria Cristina several times over the past 30 years. This time I was with a travel group of 20 people. Many of them have also stayed at the Maria Cristina over the years. I am sad to say I will not go back. The lobby and the garden setting are still serene and inviting. Good location in city. The restaurant serves nice breakfast and the waiters there are outstanding. The bellboys were great and helpful. Now the negative: The desk for the most part was unhelpful and sullen.. The bar was uninhabitable. I was so looking forward to sitting there after a long day. Smoking was allowed on the small terrace outside and the smoke drifted inside the bar It reeked.. If you sat outside there was no guarantee smokers would not arrive and sit next to you. The rooms were not "deluxe" but good enough and no street noise. However our group experienced broken air conditioners, broken TVs, no subscription to CNN so only Fox News, toilet problems, no coffee maker.. One couple were not allowed a second washcloth even after several requests! The worst was internet service. Hotel policy was one code for one device per room--no matter that 2 people sharing the room. Otherwise there was a per device charge. Even worse, the hotel required guests to get a new code every day.. Totally unacceptable.||I usually do not write negative reviews but this experience pushed all...
Read moreI will start off with the pros of the hotel: The restaurant and bar staff are lovely! They brought a warmth to the hotel which made up for the cold treatment from other staff members (will expand on further) The cleaning staff did an amazing job The location is great The rooms are spacious for the price paid Holds a lovely garden / bar with the cutest hotel cat which is very well taken care of
Cons: The staff at the reception is what brings the score down. They are very cold and unhelpful. Upon checking in they did not provide any information about the amenities of the hotel which is pretty great! We had to find out ourselves but exploring the site. Being new to a city the reception staff are normal the first point of contact for any assistance but the staff here did not provide a welcoming atmosphere to go to for help. I booked a double room in advance and upon arrival they said they sold out and could provide a single room. There was no apology or trying to fix the issue. They advertise they have a money exchange but only hold 10$ which is pretty useless
The reception staff really need to be trained on professionalism as they are the core reason of bring...
