While planning my trip to Morelia, I quickly realized that the city doesn’t have the major hotel chains I typically stay with. Based on a friend’s recommendation and some online research, I decided to try the Cantera Diez Hotel Boutique - and it was truly the perfect choice.
Booking directly through the hotel’s website was simple, though one small recommendation would be to improve the booking system by sending a confirmation email with the reservation details. As it stands, you need to go back into the system to view your booking. Not a big deal, but a confirmation email with room type and other specifics would add a nice touch.
Now, onto the arrival experience. The hotel is located right in the heart of Morelia’s city center, directly across from the stunning cathedral. Upon arrival, I was greeted warmly by the staff, and my first impression of the property was one of pure admiration. Housed in a beautifully preserved Spanish colonial building, Cantera Diez masterfully balances the historic charm of its architecture with a modern, stylish boutique hotel atmosphere. It’s a rare blend that feels both authentic and luxurious.
Check-in was smooth, with friendly service and a choice of water or Mezcal to refresh me after my journey. I was then shown to my room on the first floor, where most of the rooms are located, surrounding a lovely central courtyard. The layout is both stylish and cozy, creating an inviting, tranquil space right in the heart of the old town.
The room itself was beautiful, with high ceilings and plenty of natural wood, including the iconic wooden floors, which I absolutely adored. Walking across them and hearing the soft creak added a layer of charm that made the experience feel genuine and connected to the building’s history. The decor of the room was thoughtfully designed, with just the right amount of branding and small touches that added character without feeling overdone. The bathroom was cozy and more than spacious enough, complementing the room’s overall aesthetic perfectly.
A delightful surprise was the mini bar, stocked with a selection of drinks and snacks, all complimentary - a generous gesture that made me feel even more welcomed. The bed deserves a special mention as well; it was incredibly comfortable, ensuring I had restful, undisturbed sleep each night.
Throughout the day, the hotel offers tea, coffee, water, and snacks in the central courtyard, a lovely touch that enhances the boutique feel of the stay. The staff at Cantera Diez were consistently friendly, attentive, and helpful. They provided excellent recommendations for things to see and do in Morelia and were eager to accommodate any special requests. Each interaction reinforced the warm, inviting atmosphere that makes this hotel so special.
While I didn’t get a chance to dine at the hotel’s restaurant, I was impressed by the beautiful setup and ambiance. The dishes and drinks I saw looked visually appealing and well-prepared, and the restaurant’s decor seamlessly fit into the hotel’s overall charm.
In summary, my stay at Cantera Diez Hotel Boutique exceeded all my expectations. I haven’t had such an impressive hotel experience in years, and it truly stands out as one of my most memorable stays. From the thoughtful design and incredible location to the attentive staff and cozy rooms, this hotel captures something genuinely unique. I highly recommend Cantera Diez to anyone visiting Morelia - it’s an experience that will undoubtedly leave a...
Read moreWe spent five nights in a superb suite directly facing the cathedral and have only praise for this boutique hotel. A top quality renovation of a 300 year old historic building -- tastefully decorated with vaults, safes and cheque printers as tribute to its prior incarnation as a bank. Moses, the reception manager, is a quiet-spoken and humble man who met every one of our service requests and arranged a city walking tour, and two day tours to Patzcuaro and the Monarch Butterly sanctuary. The restaurant at the front of the hotel opens onto the extremely lively sidewalk under the portales; great people watching. The staff there were friendly and efficient, and the included breakfast menu never missed during our stay. Our suite featured 15 foot high ceilings and tastefully meshed modern decor with historic stone. Noise from the street and cathedral bells was considerable, but the interior bedroom is insulated by the large living room and heavy wood shutters that close over the balcony French doors. Overall, this hotel was the best value surprise we encountered on our meandering trip through the Mexican...
Read moreCantera Diez is a beautiful historic hotel right in the heart of downtown. Perfect place to stay in luxury and yet feel so ancient. I stayed here for my wedding this past 19th of October. Everything in the hotel including staff, restaurant service and bar was amazing. I have only one problem in which on my wedding day front desk called my wife and told her that we had to many people coming in and out after I had inform the hotel months ahead of my wedding day, my mistake was to not inform front desk that I would have make up artist and photographers coming in plus our groomsmen, bridesmaids and parents. my mistake. Besides this small compliant of front desk questioning us back and forth I must say the 4 stars is what I chose to rate the hotel. Thank you Cantera Diez for the upgrade in the terrace with no extra charge. I will diffinately recomned it and if ever I chose to stay in luxury it will be this...
