I held my wedding at Casa Grande in May of last year. It was indeed a wonderful day filled with so many memorable moments, though perhaps it's taken me a year to write this review because of the many frustrations we experienced with the hotel itself.||||It is without a doubt one of the best event venues in Michoacán because of its location, and it is for that reason that we selected Casa Grande for our wedding.||||The poor impressions started on the moment of our first visit. While we were exploring wedding venues in Morelia in October 2018, we visited the hotel only to be greeted by a dismissive front desk receptionist who simply refused to show us the event spaces. Thankfully, another hotel employee we met just a few minutes later was exceptionally considerate and gave us a full tour of all facilities.||||We were convinced immediately that this was the right venue for our wedding given the spectacular views from the hotel's roof terrace and the historic character of the hotel itself. Unfortunately, after signing the event contract, the following months were characterized by inadequate communication from the event planner provided by the hotel, and down to the final moments of even the day after our wedding, she missed important details and left us feeling stressed and frustrated.||||To top it all off, we had reserved almost all the rooms in the hotel for our event weekend, and we were told only upon arrival (with outdoor temperatures of 35 C / 95 F) that air conditioning was not working throughout the hotel and that the best they could do to accommodate would be to offer breakfast coupons. I'll never forget being mostly unable to sleep throughout the week surrounding my wedding because I had no choice but to stay in a hotel room where the temperature did not drop below 80 F during our stay.||||Hotel employees placed a large religious cross in our ceremony area and did not remove it upon request even though I informed them that neither my partner nor I were Christian and we specifically did not want any religious symbols as a part of our ceremony.||||While the hotel itself is beautiful and makes for an impressive event venue, the fact that I spent the week of my wedding paying exorbitant prices for rooms with broken air conditioning and a disorganized wedding planner who left us stressed until the morning after our wedding is an experience I can unfortunately never forget nor forgive considering the costs associated with our event...
Read moreThis place is pricey compared to other hotels in the area but it is worth it. I was in room 9 with 2 queen beds with sitting area. The ceilings must have been 15-20 ft high. Small balconies both from the bathroom and from the main room. Just like the rest of the city, the hotel keeps with its beautiful architectural details. However, in the rooms, the showers are a bit more modern. There is AC but it wasn't working during my stay. They provided 2 large fans instead. Nonetheless, the weather was quite pleasing so AC was not required for the most part. I removed one star also for 2 additional things that is probably not at the fault of the hotel but its part of the stay: (1) water temperature in the shower was very unstable and could be scalding hot or very cold from one second to the next. (2) the city/area has a sewage smell at night that resignates in the room even with the windows/doors closed. It's gone by late morning. Located right in the busiest square, area is quite exciting all day and night. Dies down between 12 am to 8 am. Traffic is crazy so it's better to walk everywhere. All amenities (banks, food, markets) are all within walking distance. I was here for a wedding and the reception was on the rooftop. Very great experience. Breakfast a la carte was part of the package and it was pretty great. I stayed at another hotel (rated 4.6 on Google) across the street on my first night and there is no comparison. You must stay here. Just to note, I drank their water from the restaurants. I think their drinking water is filtered as I had no reaction. They usually had one english speaking staff at front desk and restaurants. However all staff is very friendly...
Read moreWe booked to stay at this hotel several months before our trip through booking.com. The booking was confirmed, credit card was given for security. The hotel then sent message saying my card was not valid and so I changed the card to another one and again confirmation was received. The second time a message came the card was not valid. As this card was also used for the remaining four hotels booked on our trip without any problem, I did not understand. We then received notice our booking was terminated. I sent a message through booking.com asking why we had been terminated and the hotel replied that they had no available accommodation. I sent another message asking how this could be after I had a confirmed booking for several months. I had no reply. I then went online and found that there was availability but at a higher price than I had obtained through booking.com. It is my belief that the hotel cancelled my booking having discovered through enquiries that they could obtain a higher price than I had agreed through booking.com. This is not the way a respectable hotel behaves hence...
