My second trip to this beautiful resort about an hour drive from the airport. Once again, the grounds were beautiful, there is lush vegetation, and wide sidewalks everywhere you go. There is a man-made canal system with boats that can ferry you around the property should you not want to walk. There’s also golf carts to do that same job. ||There are various reflecting pools around the adults only side of the property. A beautiful lobby, many bars and several restaurants on the TRS side in addition to the Palladium family sides ||The most important thing I want to say is that the staff to a person are kind, generous, and helpful. We did not have a single negative or even neutral face to face encounter with the staff members.||That said the property is far from perfect, and there are several things that I think have degraded since my last visit two years ago that would give me pause for concern when suggesting this resort to someone else ||First the positives||1. the people: the workers are almost, without exception, exceedingly kind and helpful. Even the gardeners will stop and welcome you. Special mention to Rodrigo by the pool and Pedro in Capricho.||2. The value: this resort delivers a great value compared to other resorts in similar classes (Secrets, Excellence, Live Aqua) for adults only. We were able to book an Oceanside loft suite for about 75% the cost of similarly ranked resorts ocean view rooms ||3. The rooms: the rooms are beautiful and well furnished. The loft suite is two stories, with a spacious living area, bar, half bath and huge patio with hot tub on the first floor. The second floor had a king bed with a large bathroom, walk in shower, and view of the pool and ocean ||4. The location: being on playa mujeres gets you away from the crowds of the hotel zone and gives a much less crowded beach||5. Variety of (theoretical) restaurant options: Inckuding the family side, there a two Italian, two steak, Japanese, Mexican, Indian, a buffet, several casual sit down restaurants and a few we still haven’t tried (Nest for example)||6. Quick check in: whole process took less than 10 minutes (we were lucky to arrive in the morning when they were not busy )||7. Capricho: this is where we ended up eating most of the mornings. Good selection in the buffet area and then lots of a la carte options ||8. The spa: a true spa experience. If you book a massage (we negotiated half off a massage) plan for 1.5 to 2 hours ahead to experience the hydrotherapy. Sometimes that means a hot tub or cool tub but this was a full on experience with cold plunges, misting rooms, saunas, a rooftop pool and cafe ….. a true spa experience ||9. The gym: large gym with a good variety of equipment. Very busy in the morning||10. La Boheme: had our two favorite dishes at the resort. The fondue was excellent and the Chateubriand was the only true “steakhouse quality” cut of meat I had all week. Actually had the taste and tenderness of a filet type cut ||Things that need improvement ||1. Degradation of food quality: we left two years ago thinking the food was really good quality (graded on the AI scale). We felt this time that things had slipped down several botches and other repeat customers we spoke to agreed. This could be chalked up to “familiarity breeds contempt” but I really think overall the food was worse. Fewer choices in restaurants, the steak especially was repeatedly bad (tough, chewy, flavorless) and chicken was dry and chewy. Without fail. The pasta dishes at the Italian restaurant were decent. I had a “meat” sauced pasta dish (see photo) that was chili con carne over pasta. Look at the grease!||2. Air conditioning issues. I was born and raised in Houston. I know heat and humidity. Yes, it’s more humid here than in Houston. But our AC this week just didn’t do the job. We had the setting set slowly down from 20c all the way in the beginning to 13 by the end. Didn’t matter. Cool air was intermittent and the humidity never left. Paper in the room was wet. The sheets were damp. I’ve spent a couple dozen weeks in Cancun over the years and I’ve never had an experience this bad. It made it difficult to sleep. Oddly cooler in the afternoon than the night. We requested service twice and it didn’t help (if they even came?)||3. Hot water issues: hot water either never came on or was so hot that even on “cool” it was hard to shower. We requested service and if they came, we could not tell because the problem never left||4. Limited options for dinner on weeknights. There were nights that only one restaurant on the adult side was open. And it was full so you were forced to go to the family side. Not sure if it was staffing or something else but that really stood out to us as a challenge to eat different meals when it was so hard to juggle the schedules. Many restaurants were only open for dinner on Friday- Sunday ||5. Useless pre-check procedure. I got an email from the butler about a week out asking what snacks I wanted, which coffees, which two bottles of alcohol and which wine I wanted in the room, which special pillows did I want etc … I spent 20 minutes filling it out. None of it happened and the butler acted as if she didn’t know what I was talking about when I inquired where all the perks we requested were. ||6. Coupon system: you are better off negotiating your own prices and getting a better deal anyway. The prices are insane to begin with and when you even act like you’re interested in a cabana or massage they immediate offer a price lower than the coupon book would give you ||5. Timeshare sales pressure as well as people trying to sell you pictures, massages and activities nonstop got pretty old every day. The people I talked to that were vacation club members had a lot of regret for their purchase ||Other random considerations to consider: ||1. Transportation to resort. I HIGHLY recommend that you book a private direct transport. Due to the distance and necessity to go through downtown it’s 45 minutes EASILY if no stops and if you get a shared ride it could take two or more hours depending how many stops are made first. ||2. Misleading room description for beachside. We paid several hundred dollars to get a beachside suite upgrade. Beachside just means the buildings closest to the beach but you can’t really see the beach nor do you have direct access to the beach. We actually ended in the same room location we had last time when we did not request beachside and booked a generic loft suite. Now I’d imagine that beachside guarantees you will be in those last buildings as opposed to further back but if you don’t care then don’t spend the money. I would say a beachside swim out room would be worth it because the pool waiters will serve you in the swim up pool if you are in building 1 or 2. Building one gets more sun in the afternoon than 2 if you’re wondering about that.||3. Reservations for dinner are requested and even if you don’t have reservations and if there are empty tables they are likely to make you wait. We found it annoying to have to make reservations, watch people that didn’t have them get turned away, and then watch the restaurants sit half empty anyway. As soon as you get the email from the butler, get the app and plan out the dinners and make your reservations. ||4. Expedia: BEWARE with Expedia. My reservation through Expedia clearly advertised 1) $600 Resort Voucher (one per person) 2) free bottles of wine 3) $600 resort credit. Listed just like that as three separate items. Resort credit has always been money to spend at the resort on spa, food upgrades, activities etc …. I’ve had it as several Cancun resorts as well as Las Vegas resorts and various hotels around the globe. TRS would not acknowledge it and sent me to Expedia as they said it was an Expedia offer not TRS. Expedia tried to gas light me that the separately listed items (separated by commas mind you) were just a single resort access voucher (the coupon book) and the wine was advertising that wine was offered at the resort, and that the resort credit was just describing the coupon book in more detail. I went round and round with several different Expedia reps and finally was given some considerations for the misleading description but I would advise anyone booking this resort to be aware that if you see that offer, don’t believe it. At best it’s just a mistake in the description by an Expedia worker (that they still haven’t corrected). At worst it is blatant, intentional, misrepresentation of what you will get. Again, they made it right (ish) but only after hours on the phone arguing about the structure of the English language, the definitions of “resort credit” versus “voucher” and lots on ‘English as second language’ overseas call center employees telling me I didn’t know what I was talking about,||All that said, those last few points don’t relate directly to TRS management . But do relate to booking a room here.||I still liked the resort and I still had a good week, but will be trying a new resort next time rather than take a chance they will improve the food offerings and their facilities...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at TRS Coral Hotel for 6 nights in August. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Although it is a 5 star resort, I am giving it 4 stars due to some inconsistencies. ||Here is a detailed breakdown of aspects of the resort rated on a 1 to 10 scale:||Room 9/10|We stayed in an Oceanview, Beachside Loft Suite. A spacious, luxurious room with spectacular views and a sizable balcony with outdoor hot tub, day bed, and cocktail table with lounge chairs. It was fun to relax out there in the afternoon or hang out for a nightcap. The bed was on the firmer side, which I did not enjoy due to back issues and the sheets were not very soft. The downstairs powder room was a wonderful touch! There were no mirrors in the bedroom, which was inconvenient. The only mirrors were in the bathroom and one full length in the closet. The large shower was truly enjoyable. Room service was adequate as they brought what we requested. We were provided butlers throughout the week who were supposed to cater to our needs, however with the exception of Adrian, we felt the service was inconsistent. Our iron broke and was never replaced even though we requested it 3 times. We did not want the liquor in our room and instead requested bottles of house wine. One bottle of red was waiting when we arrived, but that was it. We had to beg for another bottle, which I assume was worth no more than 10 dollars. And, my husband had a hard time getting more beer. Negatives aside, it was a lovely room and the location was perfect. We were in building 2, which was very close to the beach. ||Grounds|10/10|This is where TRS truly stands out. The grounds are meticulous and abundant with so many different tropical, flowering plants. My husband and I enjoyed walking in the mornings when we would venture all the way to the family side (sister resort). It was quite an easy walk once you knew where you were going. We averaged about 13 thousand steps a day and even though I ate A LOT, upon my return I lost weight!||Beach|9/10|The beach is expansive, and yes there is seaweed, but that is not preventable. Once you walk through it at the shoreline the water is refreshing, clean and turquoise. And deep! We brought floaties, which I recommend. It was relaxing to wade in the deeper waters away from the other beachgoers. The beach was never crowded and there was always a chaise and umbrella to be had. One complaint: The tractor that cleans up the seaweed would do the work from 10 am - 12 pm daily. This seemed a little late in the day and was annoying since it was noisy, and stinky. We are early risers and would go to the beach to watch the sunrise and then walk. On our daily walk, we noticed other resorts cleaning the seaweed much earlier in the morning. ||Pool|7/10|The pool is clean and huge, but very shallow with no shade. The water was always hot, which was not refreshing, so we rarely swam in it. We would retire to the pool area after lunch and relax on the padded loungers, which were very comfortable. There were ample chaises and umbrellas, but due to the direction of the sun there was very little shade, so we had to be strategic as to which one we chose. Granted we had the run of the entire resort and could have gone to any of the pools, but we lacked the motivation. I also loved that you could have as many towels as you wanted. They were stocked everywhere. ||Spa|10/10|My husband and I got an 80 minute couples massage. We paid prior and got a 35% discount. It was still expensive, but worth every penny. The spa itself is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Expansive pools with jets. A rooftop pool. And many different hydrotherapy pools. It was a great way to spend the afternoon!||Restaurants|Overall 8/10||Capricho:|9/10|We had breakfast here every morning and it was fun to choose between the buffet and ala carte. We would do both every morning. The atmosphere was lovely and we mostly sat in the middle at a circular booth. Gabriel and Pedro (the mature server; there are two so I wanted to note this) stood out in providing exceptional service. Gabriel was a superstar and after waiting on us once remembered what to bring us to drink the very next day. Of course, we believe in tipping, so I’m sure that made a difference.||Helios|8/10|We ate here everyday for lunch and it seemed we enjoyed it more as the week went on. The servers got to know us and as with all other restaurants, the service was wonderful. The food was a bit hit or miss. Some items were delicious while others were “meh.” I recommend the grilled fish with olive tapenade, the mixed paella, the shrimp quesadillas, and mixed seafood ceviche. They make a mean margarita—the passion fruit was excellent! We also enjoyed sitting outside, which overlooked the beach area at a distance. ||Tentazione|8/10|We ate here once on our first night. We were a bit tired, so I don’t think we enjoyed it as much as we normally would have. The food was good, not great. As always, the service was excellent. And, the lighting and atmosphere were romantic. ||El Gaucho|10/10|We ate at the Argentinian Steakhouse twice and both times we had an impressive meal. We did choose to pay for premium cuts, which are quite pricey. And, worth it. The first time dining we had the Wagyu Sirloin Steaks, which were about 16-18 ounces each and absolutely delicious. The second dining experience we opted for the Tomahawk Steak which was enormous (nearly 50 ounces!) We of course shared it and it came with a whole lobster split in two, which was so delicious! The service was top notch and everyone from the hostess to the captain to the servers treated us like royalty. A bonus was the ambiance. The lighting was dim and romantic and the views were stunning overlooking the ocean. ||La Adelita|5/10|We thought we would venture to the family side for an evening just to stave off any boredom or redundancy since TRS has only three restaurants. It was not a prudent choice. I will say the service was very good, but where we were seated should have been called Screaming Baby Alley. And, we specifically mentioned that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Our view was lovely; we were seated on the side overlooking the lagoon. And the dining room was lovely. It was just hard to truly enjoy ourselves with three, nearby tables of fussy babies. The food was okay. Nothing to write home about. ||La Boheme|8/10|We ate here 2 times. The atmosphere was lovely and we had a great table—both times the same circular booth in the main dining area. Our server on the first night, Rolando, was top notch. A true professional. The reason it only rates 8 out of 10 is due to the food and portion sizes. They were woefully small. I understand it is all inclusive, so if you want more just order more, but my coq au vin portion was only 3 ounces with hardly any accompaniments. And, the bouillabaisse was pitiful. 1 shrimp and 1 mussel floating in lukewarm broth?? If they could improve their food quality it would certainly rate higher. Everyone from the host, to the captain to the server was extremely pleasant, accommodating and professional.||Gravity, Rooftop Lounge|7/10|This could have been a lot of fun if they had a way to encourage dancing and perhaps, better entertainment and activities. We went 3 times and it was so-so. The other 3 nights we chose to spend time on our gorgeous balcony. The bartenders and cocktail servers were great though! ||Overall, we had a wonderful time, but my husband and I always have a great time when we are in Mexico! There were a lot of positives, but some of the minor issues precluded it from being a top notch resort and in some ways not worth the expense. It is one of the more expensive resorts out there and if you are going to charge top dollar, the experience should be perfect. We are generous tippers and ALWAYS tipped everywhere we went. I assume that helped with the level of excellent service we received. We tipped housekeeping $5 daily. We tipped $5-$10 for breakfast; $10-$15 for lunch and $20-$25 for dinner. We also tipped captains ($5) and cocktail servers and bartenders and, of course, bell service. We never tipped our butlers, but that is because we never really saw them and as I stated, besides Adrian, they were not all...
Read moreWe stayed in this hotel for 11 nights September 2025. |This was our first time at TRS coral and chose this after staying at the TRS Yucatan October 2024. ||We arrived at the hotel around 5:30-6pm to find the lobby having some construction work (we did not know prior|To arrival). There was a drinks cart but no indication to help ourselves and no one serving from it. After waiting to check in around 15minutes later someone offered us a prosecco. This was not the same quality at the TRS yucatan and they did not serve the same one which I later found when I showed them a photo, which was disappointing. |Check in was smooth, no push or sale tactics and we were shown to our room. It was a junior suite, spacious and clean with no smell. The layout of the bed etc is a bit odd and we had no complaints but the day we left we had a massive flood through the ceiling from all the rain.||We had a friendly welcome from the butler but it changed regularly after then and I found messages were not passed on about bookings and I had to chase and chase for bookings to restaurants that I couldn’t book on the app myself with on one occasion us not knowing where we were going for dinner until 15mins before after I pestered them for a booking they said they had sorted. |We also had no butler list or anything provided to us. ||The one word that comes to mind with this place is that it is “inconsistent”. Examples of this was things like: |- the service, sometimes drinks being topped up, sometimes being outright ignored, waiting 40minutes to get a coffee and order taken at breakfast to being asked 5 times in 10minutes if you want more coffee, the Brie pastry starter at the French came covered in raisins one day then none the next, ordering hash browns as an extra at breakfast and sometimes getting 2 and sometimes 1. Ordering fries with your meal and then not showing up despite asking more than once. (These are just a few) |- The vibe around the pool is weird. There is background beats (best way to describe it) and sometimes it’s quiet but other times it’s was crazy busy with loud music, sometimes a saxophonist that was playing upbeat tracks. There were people playing there own music and not being told to turn their speakers off, people eating in the pool alongside sitting in the pool bar all day in what I can only imagine is a piss ridden pool. |-the beach was great, however people again were allowed to use personal speakers and multiple at a time so you would often have to endure listening to diff types of music, unless you put in your own headphones. At the yucatan they had staff that would tell people to turn it off. |- the entertainment was non existent in an evening, I can’t comment on the day as we stayed by the beach as the pool was not our vibe (given there was also work with jackhammer ongoing which we also were not made aware of). There were many occasions that entertainment just did not go ahead but you are never informed beach volleyball ball, silent disco, kareoke with band…there was no music in the lobby or live music as is at the Yucatan. |- The food at this place was again, inconsistent. The first meal at el gaucho was awful and so salty I couldn’t eat it. Eldorado steak was much better. Some meals I could not eat, be this due to the quality or not being what I ordered. The best overall meal and service we had ended up being at bhoghali just before we left. Just to also note there at times were just 1 place open to eat TRS side which massively impacted on their service and quality I think. Another think to mention here was the presentation was poor, I’m not joking when my husband literally got a sausage hanging out of a small bowl for a starter in the steak house, it didn’t even fit in it! We also had olive oil and balsamic poured onto our plates to dip our bread in which just looked a mess. ||The one thing I can say at this place which was consistent was how friendly the staff were…especially “super cesar” at capricho who went out of his way everyday. He is a real credit to the team. ||I am well aware that I have likely been more critical due to comparing my stay at the TRS Yucatan, but I can’t get over that we paid around the same price (this was not cheap by any stretch) and the quality and standard of this place varied so much. |They really would benefit from looking at how its ran at the Yucatan and taking a leaf out of their book as it has potential but we unfortunately would not recommend or return based on...
