I wish that I had read all the reviews, and paid attention to the dates of the other 1 star reviews, before I booked this! If you are considering a stay here, I would recommend reading the most recent reviews first. It sounds like this was once a great place to stay, but no more! ||||So why a 1 star review? ||||1. The person who checked us in was incredibly rude--and I am not talking "over-worked, I am just having a bad day rude"--I mean rude that takes effort, and started before I opened my mouth. She spoke in rapid-fire Spanish and demanded that I pay for a second room, even though my reservation clearly said that we had booked a Junior Suite for 3 people. While it might not be pretty or perfect, I thankfully am able to communicate in Spanish and I was able to show her the reservation confirmation that the hotel had sent. (I had booked directly with the hotel--not through a 3rd party.) She pointed in the general direction of our room, and then reluctantly took us up to the room, which was pretty necessary considering our room was 103, and the only number on the outside was a 0 (see photo).||2. The room looked like it was halfway furnished. The beds only had sheets and a blanket and the box springs were exposed (see photo). Our room in NO way resembled the photos on the website. See also the photo of the towel, which was a dingy gray and looked like something you would expect in prison. The hot water was iffy, and it took about 10 minutes each shower to find the one millimeter spot on the dial that would give you at least warm water.||3. The hotel is directly adjacent to a restaurant but the restaurant is not associated with the hotel. While the restaurant was good and the staff there were really friendly, it was incredibly noisy. The music played until late, and then the prep started at 7 a.m. It sounded like our room was in the middle of the kitchen. Our windows opened right into the dining area, and if we opened our shades, we were about 6 feet away from tables.||4. I will say that the housekeeping staff was kind and helpful, but that just doesn't make up for everything else.||5. The breakfasts consisted of weak coffee and stale rolls--it seemed like food you would expect in a hostel.||6. I have seen the management's response to other, similar reviews, so it is pretty clear they know about these issues, but choose to do nothing.||||Other than this hotel, we had a fabulous trip. The people in San Miguel are friendly and there are so many other options for accommodations. I hope you all make a better choice...
Read moreWe arrived at the hotel. Our driver parked close to another car when we got out of the car. It wasn’t a nice new car that we were parked next to. We were very careful getting out to not touch the other car with the door of our driver’s car. THe minute we stepped on the property we were harrassed by a man who says we scratched his car and he wanted us to pay or he would call the police. We told him no and to get away from us. THe front desk lady let him harrass us. It appeared the man worked at the hotel. He said he would call the police but we told him we did not care because we did not scratch his car. Our driver that drove us got the crazy mans phone number and talked to him and offered to give the man his insurance information but the man said no he wanted US to pay. He assumed we were rich Americans. We were two women and had two young children with us. The hotel let this man watch our hotel room and pace around in front of it and watch us. The minute he left briefly to help another customer we ran with our two young children who were scared. We ran away and had our driver come pick us up where we were hiding. I messaged the hotel several times to get a refund for the two rooms purchased as we were on the property for less than 20 minutes. No response. Our driver told us that the hotel was trying to scam us. BEWARE of this hotel.
Edit: in response to the owner: you did NOTHING to help us. That guy was on your property and he was bothering us and harassing us and you allowed it to happen. We were women traveling alone with two young boys. If we wasn't associated with your property why would you let him harass your guests. He was constantly watching our room. I want a refund or at least partial refund. We were not safe. I messaged you several times through Expedia with no response. You should have contacted us FIRST to see if were ok. Poor...
Read moreA group of 6 friends, we stayed at Casaliza for eight nights in late April 2022. Each room was vastly different from the others and while that can often be "charming", it just highlighted for us that maintenance issues are widespread. Lack of hot water was a problem for several members of our group over multiple days! ||||I stayed in room 208 and here are the problems I experienced:||1. There is no AC or ceiling fans in 208. It's located at the top of the hotel so it was unbearably hot at night. I asked for a fan and the first one they brought sounded like a turbo jet and didn't circulate any air.||2. The first four day, I never had internet connection! On the fifth day I got access to Casa Liza 205 network but it was so weak the connection kept failing. I was unable to download my pre-departure COVID results and upload it to my airline and had to go to reception to do so.||3. There are NO drapes or curtains on the windows in the room so light from outside and adjoining hotel floods the room all night.||4. Room 208 is located below the adjoining hotel's rooftop patio/bar and is LOUD on many nights until after midnight.||5. No continental breakfast - no bread, rolls, fruit - just poor quality coffee from a machine with powdered creamer in the tiny reception area. This is NOT a B&B!||6. One afternoon at 2:30, two workmen walked into my room without knocking!!||7. Furniture in room 208 is old, broken and dirty (see photos of chairs). One of the chairs next the table fell apart when I moved it!||||I understand this used to be a lovely, well-maintained property but it was sold to new managers a year or two ago and is really disappointing. There were workmen doing exterior work the entire time we were there, but they really need to focus first on...
