Stayed here for 5 nights in January. We were given one of the “newly refurbished” rooms on the 5th floor. The view from the room was one of the worst. It had a large terrace but was pointless as views were rubbish. We could see a construction site with massive crane overhead. Don’t be fooled by the Instagram posts or booking pictures of views of the city or the Theatre. Almost not guaranteed unless you pay extra. Requested room change but declined saying hotel is fully booked, which I doubt as it was off peak season. The reception staff can come across a bit cold and stuck up.

The refurbished room was ok, still felt a bit old though especially the bathroom. Finishing was poor. Note they don’t have any items in the minibar anymore, I think they have stopped after seeing all the complaints. Only two small complimentary water bottles so buy more from the shops in the neighbouring street. Free cot was provided but no small bed for children provided. Housekeeping was little slow too at times. For Example, they would supply iron but no ironing boards. So had to call again for ironing board. Toilet rolls are not restocked without asking. Limited amount of towels in room.

The best part of this stay was the breakfast. Although it wasn’t a glamorous setup, they had a few live stations serving fresh eggs, pancakes and Moroccan style flatbread (Msemmen). They also serve freshly squeezed orange juice but you have to ask. The orange juice in the dispenser isn’t pure and tasted artificial so be sure to only get freshly squeezed juice. Shoutout to Hamza for the great service. Breakfast was generally good, however where they do let down is the laid back service at the live stations. The queues get long and move slowly. They need more staff.

This hotel feels like a super mini resort with the pools, spa, shops, bowling and restaurants. Bowling has discounted rate for guests at 40 Dirhams per person. However, it is located deep underground so bit difficult for pushchairs or wheelchairs users as their is no lift.

Location is a bit far out from the main square. It’s around 40 mins walk or around 30-40 Dirhams in a taxi. Beware of inDrive vs Taxi wars. We ordered inDrive a few times, but they got scared by the taxi drivers so left. Apparently inDrive is not legal yet.

Overall it was an average stay, but with small changes the hotel could become a proper 4 star plus. As of now, I would rate this...

Boy do I have a lot to say about this place. I rarely find issue with accommodations, even when things go wrong or something is uncomfortable I tend to let it roll off my back, but safety is something I cannot compromise on. During night 3 of our 3 night stay at Opera Plaza Hotel a member of the hotel staff entered our room in the middle of the night, awaking us from a deep sleep. He said we were to call reception (no phone call was received from reception prior to this entry), when we called they said they were just trying to “verify the room” - I asked why they thought it was appropriate to do that in the middle of the night and they could not provide any answer. Needless to say I was rattled and did not fall back asleep for many hours. In the morning I asked to speak with someone at reception about the incident and was asked to wait for the manager. Almost 1 hour later we were able to speak with the manager who apologized and said they got the rooms mixed up - so I guess the breaking in in the middle of the night wasn’t seen as the issue, just that they got the wrong room. We were offered complementary spa treatments and later check out to compensate but that didn’t negate the violation of having someone enter our room and wake us up. Not to mention the arms length list of other faults at the hotel: the yucky carpet all throughout which smelled of stale cigarette smoke despite their attempts to cover it up with very strong fake floral smells in the hallways, the very loud rooms where you can hear everything from the street and the hallway, the wifi which kept dropping in the rooms and the common areas, the incredibly uncomfortable beds which felt like sleeping on a slab of concrete, the dirt and bugs found on the floor in the bathroom, the fact there was no soap provided in the room and it felt like we were on rations for toilet paper, the two separate beds provided for a couple, the lack of air conditioning despite 30 degree weather in November, the stale food at breakfast. Unfortunately I can’t comment on the pool, we didn’t try it as most of the loungers were dirty and covered in bird poo. The good? Well, the location seemed convenient enough, and they were quick to provide amenities like toilet...

Absolutely rubbish hotel. The overall atmosphere was good and rooms were decent sized but the staff are attrocious.

Had an incident where the bath got blocked and instead of bothering housekeeping we cleaned the mess ourselves with the towels that the hotel provided.

We went out for an exursion and when we got to the hotel exhausted we found that our bedroom was not made. So tired we didn't question anything and went to bed.

When we woke up in the morning to shower we found the towels had not been sent for cleaning and so we couldn't shower either. We rang the hotel reception who informed us there "was a problem with the towels". After explaining what happened on the phone they told us to come downstairs. We explained the problem to the receptionist who told us the manager would soon be in touch. We waiting in the bar for twenty minutes but no visit occured.

We headed out and on arrival requested to speak to the manager but once again we didn't show. For the remainder of our stay our towels weren't replaced so had to borrow towels from another room that we had booked.

It was only until the end of our stay when checking out that the receptionist held us back and wouldn't allow us to leave the hotel because "there was a problem with the towels" and that they were too dirty to be washed in their laundry.

After requesting to speak to the manager they refused because the manager wasn't due in for another hour, but apparently instructed them over the phone to charge us before we left. So the manager couldn't speak to us over the phone but could only do so to instruct his colleague to charge us.

As we were getting late to go to the airport we checked out in a rush and had to pay 600 Dirhams (£50) for some towels! If the manager actually had the decency to speak to us we could've got them washed by a laundrette for not even a tenth of the cost.

Absolutely terrible service, couldn't understand English properly and will ensure all of our clients and friends/family don't visit this hotel.

We visit Marrakech on business every month and will definitely be avoiding this hotel!...

Where to begin!? I’ll start off with the good - the rooms are clean and pretty spacious. Now for the rest: - check in took over 2 hours, there seemed to be an issue finding our booking which was concerning. As we were half an hour early than the check in time we said we’d go for food nearby and come back to check in. We did so, and still had to wait. I was told it was due to us booking last minute, which I then informed them is wrong as I’d booked over 2 months prior. It seemed like they had to scramble to get us our rooms. We should have had a superior room overlooking the pool, however, we were placed on the opposite side of the hotel which leads me on to my next point - as our room was facing the busy main road traffic, the noise is unbelievable. You can hear it all through the night, especially as people in Morocco constantly beep their horn at ALL hours of night (see attached video for a sample, this was one of the quieter times!) - room temperature: our room was so cold, the heating / air con I was told didn’t work, and when mentioning the room temp I was told we can request extra covers?! - key cards frequently stop working - lifts frequently stop working - wifi is pretty poor at times - asked for an iron to be sent to the room, never arrived - after the first night our room wasn’t cleaned/ made despite asking for it to be done and leaving instructions on the door - on the penultimate night as I was speaking to reception about another issue I was informed others have complained about the lack of heat in the rooms, maintenance had been out to check as a result and that night was way too hot (23° all night) and no way to turn it down for the room itself. - the bidet shower device has SUCH a high pressure on it, it’s unusable / unsafe I can see myself going back to Marrakesh but I’d not be staying here again.

I stayed at the Grand Plaza Hotel for four nights. When booking my room, I requested a specific type of room, but that was initially ignored. The female receptionist, (can't remember her name, begins with IB), was friendly and went above and beyond for me. However, some night staff, like those who ignored my nighttime wake-up call requests, were rude. The treatment I received at the spa was absolutely fantastic and I would recommend anyone to try the Spa. Despite language barriers, the spa treatment was great. On my first night, I visited the restaurant. I had a traditional Moroccan chicken tagine, but I choked on a bone and vomited on the floor. I spent 45 minutes dislodging the bone, which caused immense discomfort. The waiting staff asked if I needed a doctor, which I refused. They were helpful, but instead of waiving the charges, they charged me for my drinks and removed the cost of my food. I didn’t return to that restaurant during my whole stay. Another downside is that rooms at the front are noisy due to traffic. For me, it was fine. The rooms are adequate, but I wouldn’t call it a four-star hotel. It’s more like a three-star hotel just based on my experience at a nearby hotel. Overall, while the hotel is okay, it's not quite four star. I'd say it's more three star just based on my experience at another hotel around the corner from this. The cost of my room was on average about £110 a night for what I would call a three star hotel. If this was a proper four star or even five star establishment, I'd be more than happy to pay top prices, but that wasn't the case. Anyway, I want to thank the friendly and helpful staff.
