The place only accepts cash and demand full payment upfront during check in. Make sure you carry alot of cash.
This place is not suitable for kids. Period. Unclean. Very cold at nights and early mornings. The rooms are empty space with beds n a table. No safety deposit vault. No padlocks for the cupboards. No towels. No handwash. No soap. No waste bin. You have to request soap bin and towels and only then they will give you the bare minimum.
The place is full of smokers, so even when you request non smoking room. You still can get the smoke into your rooms, so no point offering non smoking rooms. The windows are just hole in the wall with wooden shutters, so doesn't keep out noise, cold or smell.
This is not a hotel I think it's a typo on their part and actually mean Hostel Salsabil. It is suited for teen or adult backpack travellers who don't mind dumping their stuff and spending their whole day out and about then coming back to a simple metal framed bed with a very thin mattress to sleep on. It is a place with very very basic facilities.
Place is unclean and in disrepair, the rooms smell, floors has God knows what marks and stains, the bed covers are heavily worn in places, the pillows are very flat, soft over used n stained, no comfort at all.
They have a shared kitchen, which is a very basic gas cooker that is placed on top of the kitchen unit connected to a gas cylinder. You have to turn that on and use a lighter to ignite the burner. Bloody unsafe for those who are not confident with such equipment, expect your hairs to be singed in the process.
Kitchen has a basic fridge with out of date stuff left in it which they couldn't be bothered to clean out. The kitchen is a dumping ground of unused wasted bread that has become stale. Disgusting. I had to make it a point to the owners before they removed it. Cleanliness is not a priority to the owners. Far from it. Plates cutlery cooking equipment is only cleaned by one maid who doesn't come round often, so you will notice a stack of dirty dishes piling up. Everything is done by requesting or demanding from the owners. Have no expectations of things to be done automatically, even basic room service to clean or tidy room and bed sheets has to be requested everyday! They do not change your sheets, they just tidy it up.
Do not order breakfast from them. Better to go out and have it at local cafe. When you see their kitchen you will understand why.
The bathroom is disgusting and smelly, stains again every where, no pressure to the taps but the toilet does flush and hot water works.
Most of what I wrote will be similar with most Riads. So if travelling with family seriously book a resort and travel to Madina for a day excursion rather than staying in the heart of it.
The positives: Mohammed spoke English and he was helpful friendly and tried to offer assistance where he could, only when you requested.
Entrance is to place is guarded with a manned security guy. So walking in and out at night is safe.
If you are prepared to face these basic standard of living, then location is spot on for all local sightseeing places, cafe, mosque, museum, market etc. All walking distance. Plus 30 mins walk to modern supermarket Car Four if you want to use card and purchase all your western type of food to bring back, UKs version of a Morrison.
If you did want to exchange cash go to Hotel Ali nearby the Market for best exchange rates and they provide receipts. If you are stuck for cash be warned ATM charges are steep but widly accessible for emergencies, you withdraw whatever the maximum is set from your bank in your country ATM. If you do need to eat and run out of spare cash but have card, only cafe I found close to Salsabil is LaDresse definitely best service and continental menu there is and accept credit and debit card. Everywhere else accept cash dirham or euro.
Hope this open your eyes up of what to expect, good luck if you are thinking of booking here. I won't coming back to this...
Read moreStayed 3 nights here. Family of 5 with 3 kids (incl a baby) What you get is what you pay. It is quite an average Riad / Hotel but the best thing about it is its location. 2-3 mins walk to Koutoubia mosque and 5 mins from the famous Jamia El Fanna square. Also it is right in between two 5 star hotel so it is quite secure. Right on a street having lots of mobile shops so handy if u wanna get a sim or topup. Very close to find a cab either right from outside the hotel or 2 mins away from the main street. Very close to a decent bakery for breakfast (our room rent didnt include breakfast) and other small shops for mineral water etc. Another highlight about this hotel / Riad is its friendly staff. The owner Mokhtar is very friendly and helpful. Right from the day I made my booking he was always responsive to whatever query we had which I didnt find with other hotels in Morocco. He was also very helpful during our stay through whatsapp. Also arranged airport pickup (€15) for us that was right on time and convenient. ||||Now some negative points: Room was ok but the bathroom require serious renovation. Shower head was rusty and wasnt powerful enough. On our 1st night the wash basin sink was clogging up. Reported and we were told it will be sorted next day during cleaning. Next night when we came back from a tiring day in Marrakesh the basin issue was still there. Had to message Mokhtar specifically and then it was sorted. There were no towels provided on the 1st night. Again had to request and got 2. Not even basic toiletries like soap for washing hands etc is provided. Only on our last day we found some soap. There is no electric kettle in the room nor in the kitchen. Had to use an old style pot to boil water for baby milk in the kitchen. On the first night there was quite a lot of dust under the bed. Bed itself were quite stiff and took a lot of time to get used to it. Wifi in our room (roof) was almost non-existent. ||||Overall I would say it is ok if you are on budget and want something really close to main...
Read moreWhat I really like about staying here are as above; it’s location, close to the square, the souk and one can eAsily get to the new town from hotel. It is also situated between two five stars hotels with a security guard monitoring the place 24/7. As it is set back from the main thoroughfare, it is a little haven from the busyness of the square. The riad is also five minutes walk to the square and another five to the souk. ||||Best of all are two staff members, Said and Mohammed who gave great advice about where to eat, how to bargain and generally what to expect when visiting Marakesh. As for the room, please remember you get what you paid for. It is clean and although, the room and attached en-suite could do with a facelift, for the asking price, I would say it is good value for money. Quite happy to stay there again for the...
