This review is for the cafe-restaurant only. Not far from plaza primo/Place Moulay El Mehdi, this hotel and cafe/restaurant is just a few minutes' walk away, but worth escaping the noise, distraction, and bustle of the busiest part of the city center. Upon taking the second door at the hotel and going upstairs, you're greeted with a classy decor featuring a large glass aquarium that outshines many of the cafes in the city center without being flashy per se.
The Hotel Athena Cafe seems to attract grown adult couples (not so much the teens), families, and professionals, and I saw people working there with laptops on my most recent visit.
It is one of my favorite places in the city center to grab a coffee or tea and talk with friends. I enjoy that they offer a nonsmoking atmosphere sans music or the excessive noise often accompanying football matches. You can easily carry on a conversation without shouting, and it wouldn't be out of the question to hold a business meeting there. They offer a wide selection of juices and milk-blended drinks in addition to the standard coffee and teas.
The servers are quite professional and will neither ignore nor pester you. I don't feel the least bit bad holding a table for a couple of hours, as they have separate sections for the cafe and restaurant. While it's been years since I dined on the restaurant side, I do recall the food being good quality without being overly expensive. The restrooms are very nice and clean, which is a refreshing departure from other cafes in the city center.
If you are seeking out a classy place to bring your partner on a date, considering holding a business meeting, or are simply the intelligentsia type who loves burning away hours in thought or debating with like-minded friends, this just might be the...
Read moreThe hotel is very well located in the “new” town of Tatouan. The staff are excellent- helpful and friendly. The rooms are basic but very adequate. No fault to them. Quibbles include the fact that the hotel does not have a bar in the accepted sense of that word. It does not serve alcohol of any description. The “mini bar” in each room is , in fact, a very of and totally empty fridge. It is not even plugged in. |The breakfast is included in the price if the room. You would certainly have plenty to eat and would never leave while still feeling hungry. However, as we stated several nights there we learned the breakfast never changes. It is precisely the same every morning. After 4 nights it has become very boring. |The hotel - especially Mohammed in reception- organised an English speaking guide at a reasonable cost. The guide was very friendly and informative. |I would recommend the hotel without hesitation but don’t expect it to be like a...
