The streetside retail bustle of Namche is left behind as you ascend the many interior steps to reach the Kamal Hotel's dining room which serves as a base for acclimatization activities in the Namche area. With a full pack, these stairs can be surprisingly "breathtaking" after the access walk to Namche. No doubt now that you are in the Himalayas as the protective metal edges on the stair steps are salvaged and re-used snowpickets! ||Rooms are comfortable (in Nepali context) with firm mattresses, LOTS of floor space to sort gear and with your own prussik cord there is ample protected undereave drying space for laundry off the balcony/walkway outside your door. A few steps from your room will provide a backstreet escape from the local hawkers to get to the striking Norgay Tenzing Sherpa Memorial statue near the museum as well as out of town past the chortens for a "rest day" beneficial walk. Sitdown western toilets are now provided at the end of the balconies for sharing. Outside, at kitchen level behind the hotel, a large village-style public washing centre provides cold water laundry and bathing options although privacy is non-existent. "Tato-panni" basins are available for more secluded self scrubbing in one's room when/if requested.||||The dining room is heated with a central stove (unlike the yak/nak dung heaters you will encounter at higher elevations). The kerosene used to start this heating fire can be a bit intrusive so you may wish to plan your evening meal after the fire has been well established. The serving staff are pleasant, conversational, relaxed and interested in their clients. Seating is typically around the perimeter of the room with those on the outsides of the tables on benches much more aware of and involved in the comings and goings of other global travellers. Conversations are wide ranging and inclusive of any willing participants. The veggie burgers are generously sized and tastily prepped. The dal bhatt is perhaps a little more urban in serving size and predictability than what you will experience in more remote locations BUT if you request "piro pickle" you will not be disappointed. ||The dining area serves also as a quiet reading/journalling/contemplation area, a guide services negotiating locale, a rest and recovery spot and unfortunately, to this writer, a TV room with intrusions of first world media and music. Battery charging services are available although somewhat unpredictable in speed and efficacy.||A visit to the local monastery is recommended where a pleasant lama facilitates prayer, meditation, memorial butter lamp lighting, pujas...
Read moreThere’s a reason why this is one of the lowest rated accommodation in Namche. We stayed on the upper level and I’m sure I was overthinking it but the whole time when I was in the room, the integrity of the structure felt unsafe and unstable as everything was made of plywood. There was a large hole in the roof of our toilet and every time the sink was used, water would leak at the bottom as shown in the pictures. The toilet’s flush would not work at times too.
Like many of the accommodations we stayed at in Nepal, the staffs were all super friendly and the room had a pretty great view in the morning. Their chicken briyani was one of the best I ever had too!
Frankly speaking, I couldn’t change my accommodation as my trekking company organised it and it was only just for a night but if I had a choice, I would definitely look elsewhere when it comes to finding accommodation in Namche as I’m sure there are way...
Read moreTo and from Namche are the hardest days during everest base camp, plus there is an acclimatization day as well. So for three nights had to endure staying at this terrible place. ||||The rooms are okay, the common hall is on the third floor so you need to climb up steep stairs to eat. ||||The food they served were not what we ordered and they weren't willing to change or even give us any other option.||||And they charge you for everything, which isn't necessary in Namche, because bakeries there will let you charge your batteries for free and give you free wifi. ||||Location is also quite further inside and not convenient when you reach there after a day long of walking. Upon reaching , you'll again have to climb three flight of stairs to reach the dining hall. ||||What is the worst is attitude...
