My friend insisted that I try this place and we have had a few of the items from the menu. Even though I would prefer something/somewhere else which is more homely/basic especially in a place like Namche!
This was my 2nd trip to Namche after 2003, while trekking during the Golden Jubilee celebration of conquest of Mt. Everest.
Since my persistent preference of Indian cuisine, my friend wanted my honest opinion on the Biryani they serve. Being from Dhaka, Bangladesh, where biryani is a dish that we can eat as breakfast till dinner and it's everywhere - from street vendors to fancy high end. Not ever found it in any cafe in Dhaka though. (if my knowledge is being betrayed).
It was looking ok. I was not very keen to try since my similar experiences were not very memorable! I am not a foodie and I prefer budget food.
The look was satisfactory. cooked with Basmati rice and hid the chicken with curry/gravy. Can't complain, some places in India do it. My experience of biryani in Kathmandu was poor. I could imagine they have cooked the rice and meat separately which is very understandable considering the size and serving time from the order. But it may taste like fried rice with curry if you really want to be critical!
From the price point, it's a hefty $10. Again, its Namche Bazar. Things come from a distance. I thought its ok to be priced.
One liner: it's ok if you really crave it and treat your Namche trip...

Sherpa Barista is hands down one of the best cafés in Namche Bazaar. Whether you’re acclimatizing for a trek or just passing through, this cozy little spot offers the perfect atmosphere to relax and recharge. The coffee is genuinely top-notch—rich, aromatic, and brewed with care. As a barista myself, I could tell they know their craft well.
The food menu is surprisingly diverse and everything is fresh and flavorful. I tried their yak cheese sandwich and a slice of carrot cake—both were fantastic! The vibe inside is warm, welcoming, and filled with the comforting smell of fresh coffee and baked goods.
The best part, though, is the staff—friendly, helpful, and always smiling. You can also enjoy a great view from the upstairs seating area, which makes the coffee taste even better!
Highly recommended for anyone trekking through the Khumbu region. Sherpa Barista is more than just a café—it’s a little haven in the...
Read moreWalked by this place on our first night in Namche and saw a guest in the window stuffing his face with a juicy burger and nothing but sauce and a big fat grin on his face. Dreamed about returning to the Sherpa Barista and experiencing a portion of the euphoria that man got to embrace. After finally returning to Namche after eating nothing but rice and pizza for 2 weeks my group and I indulged like we had never seen food before. Milkshakes, lemonades and a frothy beer to top it off. Once the food hit the table we couldn’t control ourselves and within seconds we were left with sauce all over our bodies. Still stuck in a fever dream while I write this review. That burger is something we will continue to dream about for the rest of our lives. Some say it’s as good or even better...
