Despite the higher status I hold with Marriott and Hilton, I am a huge fan of Hyatt. I generally always stay at Hyatt properties for my vacations. Having said that, this is the lowest score I've given a Hyatt property.
Locatiion 4/5 - I liked the location of this hotel. It was located in a less bustling part of town and had a true neighborhood feel. Some people might not like this and might want to be closer to the touristy areas. But, being out of the touristy areas was a nice respite from the crowds and the noise. I also enjoyed checking out some of the restaurants and bars nearby. There are also a number of things you can walk to and most certainly tram to from the hotel.
Customer Service 3/5 - This is where the hotel fell down in my opinion. I'm nit picky about cleanliness and I'm also worried about bedbugs. As such, the bed is always the first thing I inspect carefully every time I visit a hotel. Of all of my Hyatt stays, I've had to call into the front desk 3 times because I've found hair on the bed. This hotel the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam in particular had 7 or 8 hairs of varying colors and thickness on the bed. I called to the front desk to change the sheets. Two employees came up to inspect the situation and confirmed that there were indeed hairs on the bed. Their solution was to simply change the flat sheet that the hairs were on. It didn't really occur to me at the time - since I had just flown in from the other side of the world - but the other hotels I've reported this to changed all the sheets and pillow cases. The staff at the other hotels were also more contrite about the situation at hand. In both other cases I was offered some token gift as an apology. It doesn't matter if it was something small or large, but at least I was offered something for the incident. In my opinion the apology at the Regency Amsterdam was weak and I was offered nothing for my inconvenience. Additionally, I reported this to the hotel via a Hyatt survey and no one reached out to me with an apology.
Room 4/5 - I have one additional nit pick about the room. I was too tired to report this other issue, but one of the rolls of toilet paper was wet. It was as if the maid laid the toilet paper roll down on a little puddle of water before mounting it on the holder. Gross.
Despite these two issues, the room was good. The room looked and felt clean in spite of the hair on the bed and the wet toilet paper. The room was also practical. I stayed at the Andaz later in the trip and felt that while extremely nice, the room wasn't as practical. (e.g. mirror at the andaz offset from sink, sink next to bed thus waking your significant other if they are sleeping, etc.). I guess the one major caveat I have about this room is that the sink didn't close no matter how much I tried to play with the knob to close the drain. I'm wondering if this is an Amsterdam thing because I couldn't close the drain at the Andaz either. I wear hard contacts, so it was extremely nerve racking to rinse off my contacts over the sink.
Overall - I gave this hotel a 3 out of 5 primarily because I was unhappy with the hotel's response to my issues. It's really surprising because I've had nothing but good service at all of the Hyatt properties that I've been to. To be fair, if these issues didn't occur, I may very well have rated this hotel a 5 out of 5. But, customer service is just too...
Read moreThis was the last stop on our trip, so we were relatively tired at this point. We didn't even have time to get out of the car before the employees were helping with our bags and bringing them inside. I wish I had gotten his name from the front dest but he had the most beautiful blue eyes... mesmerizing. As we were checking in, he gave us a map with some key tourist spots of Amsterdam and how to get there as well as some local favorites. This hotel is great because it is in a quiet neighborhood but it is not a far walk to see the touristy things. Its quiet, clean, and fit our needs well. BEST HOTEL SHOWER! Its huge and has amazing water pressure!! Not sure if its a european thing but the beds were hard... it is what it is. I would recommend to take an Uber to the other side of town and then just throughout your day walk back, it was perfect for us. Also do a canal cruise, it was amazing!!!
We were only here for 3 days and ate 2 of the 3 dinners at the restaurant/bar in the hotel (not the restaurant at the front, but the bar in the back) and we would sit on the patio and chat for hours with the drinks flowing! The food was great! Definitely try the fish and chips (the fish look like chicken nuggets but they are soooo good, i got them twice) and the braised beef. Service was slower but they had to go to the front desk for everything to ring up (crowdstrike microsoft thing) so that was understandable (they still did an amazing job).
Hotel staff were always kind and prompt with answers for finding someone with the answer! Reminder that we stayed here during the crowd strike microsoft thing so they only had one laptop for checkin, but they handled it well. Plenty of outlets in hotel room. Bedside had euro plug, USB-A, and USB-C. Same for other side of bed and for desk! Also had ports in WC and minibar area. They also have a wonderful steamroom sauna attacked to the gym for those who want to relax. There are also showers down there for those who woke up late and need to get ready as someone else is using the bathroom in their hotelroom! One last thing I loved is the waterbottle fill station (one right next to elevators as well as in the gym and sauna area) super helpful! If your worried about security, you cant get to any other floor except yours. There are RFID readers in elevator that will only let you to ground floor, spa, and the floor your room is on! Great for peace of mind!
Thanks again to all the staff for their dedication to excellence as well as their determination to standard during the cyber issues encountered! Great job, I will be returning and look forward to my next stay, hopefully two...
