Our family had a wonderful 4-day, 3-night stay at Hotel Lion d'Or in Haarlem! The hotel’s location is unbeatable—just steps from the train station (70m or less) and a short walk to the charming city center. It made exploring both Haarlem and Amsterdam incredibly convenient. Our room was spacious enough for 3 people (2 adults and 1 child), clean, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect balance of comfort and modern amenities. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of sightseeing. Staying in a corner room, we even woke up to the delightful sound of birds singing in the early morning—a lovely touch! The breakfast was excellent, with a nice variety of fresh and tasty options to start the day. Also, don’t miss visiting Café De Paris in Haarlem, near Hotel Lion d'Or. The food there was fantastic and definitely worth trying! What truly set this hotel apart was the staff. Every team member we interacted with was friendly, professional, and eager to assist. Their helpful local recommendations enriched our trip and made it even more memorable.Overall, I highly recommend Hotel Lion d'Or to anyone visiting Haarlem. It’s a gem of a hotel that combines convenience, comfort, and outstanding service. We can’t wait to return...
Read moreAbsolutely excellent, and very pleased with our stay.
We had two medical issues arise during our stay and the staff was extremely accommodating and helpful. We could not have asked for more.
The rooms are pleasant and comfortably sized. The beds are very comfortable. The daily housekeeping was thorough. Rooms are air conditioned (putting the AC on high will create a noticeable draft in certain parts of the room, the medium speed is much gentler and still cools the room). Windows open, and when closed minimize (but not eliminate) outdoor noise.
The daily housekeeping is no longer a given, so much appreciated. We would have appreciated knowing earlier in our stay that rooms with stayover guests are not serviced until late afternoon.
Breakfast is great. The cafe is a "well kept secret." We enjoyed both evening meals at the cafe.
The location - across Stationsplein from the NS Haarlem station - makes getting to Amsterdam and other Dutch cities very easy. It is also an easy walk to the Grote Markt, and to plenty of shops and restaurants.
Overall, we would highly...
Read moreI believe that this hotel used to be a 4 star hotel, but that it has gone downhill slightly in the last few years. The main issue is that the bathroom floods a ridiculous amount. There is no curtain or anything and the shower is directed at the toilet, where the door to the bathroom is close by. So when you shower, the water just floods the bathroom and rolls out the door of the bathroom unless you put towels to block it. Even then, the toilet gets soaking wet and you need to dry it off after every shower. There is AC, but the temperature is set to 16 and it never actually reaches that temperature - it also turns off automatically after a certain amount of time. If it was a hot summer day, I would not say the AC would work adequately. I would also say the rooms need a deep clean besides the general once over they get. There was dust on all surfaces and the corners of the room had small piles of dust and dirt. The hotel is located in a prime spot right across the metro which is great. Additionally, there are many close cafes and restaurants (would recommend Oscar down...
