Our family had a wonderful 4-day, 3-night stay at Hotel Lion d'Or in Haarlem! The hotel’s location is unbeatable—just steps from the train station (70m or less) and a short walk to the charming city center. It made exploring both Haarlem and Amsterdam incredibly convenient. Our room was spacious enough for 3 people (2 adults and 1 child), clean, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect balance of comfort and modern amenities. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep after a day of sightseeing. Staying in a corner room, we even woke up to the delightful sound of birds singing in the early morning—a lovely touch! The breakfast was excellent, with a nice variety of fresh and tasty options to start the day. Also, don’t miss visiting Café De Paris in Haarlem, near Hotel Lion d'Or. The food there was fantastic and definitely worth trying! What truly set this hotel apart was the staff. Every team member we interacted with was friendly, professional, and eager to assist. Their helpful local recommendations enriched our trip and made it even more memorable.Overall, I highly recommend Hotel Lion d'Or to anyone visiting Haarlem. It’s a gem of a hotel that combines convenience, comfort, and outstanding service. We can’t wait to return...

Absolutely excellent, and very pleased with our stay.

We had two medical issues arise during our stay and the staff was extremely accommodating and helpful. We could not have asked for more.

The rooms are pleasant and comfortably sized. The beds are very comfortable. The daily housekeeping was thorough. Rooms are air conditioned (putting the AC on high will create a noticeable draft in certain parts of the room, the medium speed is much gentler and still cools the room). Windows open, and when closed minimize (but not eliminate) outdoor noise.

The daily housekeeping is no longer a given, so much appreciated. We would have appreciated knowing earlier in our stay that rooms with stayover guests are not serviced until late afternoon.

Breakfast is great. The cafe is a "well kept secret." We enjoyed both evening meals at the cafe.

The location - across Stationsplein from the NS Haarlem station - makes getting to Amsterdam and other Dutch cities very easy. It is also an easy walk to the Grote Markt, and to plenty of shops and restaurants.

Overall, we would highly...

I believe that this hotel used to be a 4 star hotel, but that it has gone downhill slightly in the last few years. The main issue is that the bathroom floods a ridiculous amount. There is no curtain or anything and the shower is directed at the toilet, where the door to the bathroom is close by. So when you shower, the water just floods the bathroom and rolls out the door of the bathroom unless you put towels to block it. Even then, the toilet gets soaking wet and you need to dry it off after every shower. There is AC, but the temperature is set to 16 and it never actually reaches that temperature - it also turns off automatically after a certain amount of time. If it was a hot summer day, I would not say the AC would work adequately. I would also say the rooms need a deep clean besides the general once over they get. There was dust on all surfaces and the corners of the room had small piles of dust and dirt. The hotel is located in a prime spot right across the metro which is great. Additionally, there are many close cafes and restaurants (would recommend Oscar down...

The Lion d'Or is excellently situated right by the train station. I have stayed there several times and have never heard a train. More of an issue would be noise coming from the square (busses & people) but that was also not much of a problem. More of an issue however are the beds, which could have been pulled right from a military dormitory with very thin mattresses. This together with small synthetic Duvet, made for uncomfortable nights. The bathroom is modern and relatively spacious, but plan a bit more time for your showers as there is almost no water pressure (no issues with temperature inconsistencies though). The rest of the hotel is well decorated and pleasant to be in. The breakfast is varied and good. Service is also very good and the front desk is very kind and helpful. I would still recommend this hotel, as the shortcomings are maybe not as negative for others. The location and convenience is however top notch!

Lovely hotel! The location is incredible being so close to the station and a lovely walk into where most of the shops and restaurants are! The desk staff were lovely and really helpful, the rooms were cleaned very well by the housekeeping staff and the bar staff were nice too. The rooms are lovely and include a fridge which is always a bonus! The only thing I didn’t like is the ‘twin’ beds are actually essentially a double bed made up with separate bedding. I tried to move the beds apart but they were fixed to the wall. I didn’t really understand how that can be called a twin room. Otherwise no faults.. the aircon worked great in the room and what a treat being able to actually fully open a window, as you can’t do that in the UK! Nice view from the window of the side street and the noise from outside wasn’t too loud either! I’d definitely recommend this hotel and would 100% stay here again!

Hotel is in a non drivable square near the station. The room was a good size with a desk to work at. WiFi was a good speed and sustained all my needs as did some work whilst here. Short walks to plenty of food places and some beautiful views. Breakfast was fresh, plenty of selection and appreciated the HP sauce! The only real improvement was the noise levels exterior, would be nice to have it quieter in the room due to the windows not cancelling sound great (it’s not at an obstruction level though). The room decor is a little 70s but if you like that thing it’s consistent.
