We weren't in the main Stay Mission Bay complex but in a neighbouring apartment block which wasn't branded Stay Mission Bay (or anything else). It was disappointing accommodation and certainly not value for money. The apartment wasn't serviced. The apartment's common staircase carpet was badly worn. There was a dying plant on the floor landing, sitting on an ugly watermarked tiled floor. The apartment's floor rug was worn, buckled and a trip hazard. The window blinds were very dirty and dusty. There was minimal clothing storage - no space for non-hanging items without taking out the spare blanket which then had to be left on the floor. The coffee table was stained with cup marks. There were no drinking glasses and when requested (within half an hour of check-in) we were told they wouldn't be provided until the next day. The kitchen area wall sockets were insufficient to have the fridge, kettle and coffee machine going at the same time. The mugs were too big for the coffee machine. Bathroom provisions were minimal - no shower soap, no tissues. The liquid soap dispenser by the wash basin was rusty. Two floor tiles in the shower were chipped. The toilet flushing system was extremely loud, reverberating throughout the apartment, leaving an unpleasant aroma in the kitchen area. We didn't use the oven, microwave or washing machine so unable to comment about them. The seaviews were minimal - let's call them sea glimpses. The driveway was poorly maintained.
While this is the first review I have left about a place I have stayed, it's not the first disappointing accommodation experience in New Zealand. New Zealand needs to do better, much better, in lifting the standards and quality of its tourist...
Read moreWe had the ground floor apartment which was quite old and dated, It was freezing when we arrived, no heat pump, just a small heater which struggled to heat the main living area, bedrooms were like an icebox,, bathroom was very dated not like what we saw in the pictures don't be fooled. The bedroom had ceiling had cobwebs everywhere, even a few coachroaches on the ceiling. Cupboards had sufficient essentials to use. There was a small 50ml carton of milk in the fridge and the tiniest amount of dishwasher liquid in a bottle, I know these things seem unimportant but it makes a difference. Rooms were spacious, view into a garden, dining room was facing the carpark and everyone could see us frim the street, so had to keep the blinds closed night and day for privacy. We washed our clothes and then discovered the drier was broken so had to go to laundry at to dry clothes. Very inconvenient but necessary. I did try to make contact with the office regarding heating and drier. They did not return my calls but arrived the next morning with another extra heater which was better. Not great value for money. We paid $675 for 2 nights for 4 people. Feel we could of got better value ekes where. Location was great one block from mission Bay Beach. Had a dedicated car space to park. But definitely don't be fooled by the photos of this place. There is 2 parts to the apartments, 1 to 4 is in an older building, we had the ground floor apartment. Then there is a more modern part right next door which is 5 to 8, these look way more modern and...
Read moreStayed here this weekend in Apartment 7. Parking was easy to access, with apartments 6 and 7 car parks right off Marau Crescent, so there is no need to enter via the main entrance and drive around the back and side of the complex.
It's a great location! To find it, enter 9 Patteson Ave in Google. That's the easiest way, as the complex is not sign posted at all.
The apartments are a 2-minute stroll to Mission Bay shops, eateries, and the beach.
There was plenty of space in our apartment for 4 adults, and we also had our two granddaughters with us, so the up n down bunk beds tucked in off the kitchen, and the lounge was perfect. They loved them.
The apartment was clean and modern. Lots of towels, plenty of utensils, microwave, coffee plunger, etc. FREE tea and coffee supplied.
Communication via email was great. Including an email received during our stay asking how our stay was going. Nice touch!
No reception or staff on site. It's a no key system, You'll receive an email the day before arrival, giving you a front door code.
NB. There is a no smoking policy in the apartments, understandably. But there is also no smoking in or around the grounds. So, I guess it's smoking standing out on the street pavement. Although the streets are busy, they also...
