Movenpick Mission Bay — Restaurant in Ōrākei

Love their ice cream but I suspect their staff are taking advantage of the owner. Ssturday night 1st of December we were told by staff they were closing in 2 (two) minutes at 10:18 so closing at 10:20, when Google says they close at 11pm. At the time the place had 15 people in it and the staff refused entry at 10:18 to 6 people who wanted to come in. When I asked why they were closing well before 11pm the staff member I talked to looked embarrassed and just said their closing time varies. Tonight they lost the owner money. I was also told when we first came in about 9:50 I couldn't have an affligato because the coffee machine was switched off. Maybe the owner has an arrangement with the staff or regularly closes at 10:20 but hasn't updated Google who knows but I suspect not.

Update 25/2/19 glad to report, my most recent visit half an hour before closing and staff were welcoming and pleasant and no issues with closing early, different night with different staff so maybe I just struck a bad night before, very happy things...

Great spot around the corner, opposite to the beach. I was here in the evening Last weekend when there was a queue. I wanted to join and get the ice cream, I tried their Tiramisu which was great and Creme Brûlée too. The customer service was outstanding and so was the ambience. There was only one concern throughout, I could not read or know the flavours until I reached the staff behind the counter. The board that has ice cream images has the names/flavours written in the most tiniest font. Or should I say, the white light was too bright to read anything. I actually had to hurry up checking few things with the staff getting my ice creams. It could also be so, because the queue was long. But if there are options/arrangements to choose flavours when in queue itself, that would end up in a better experience. It pretty much is going to be the same during holidays especially on the...

The ice cream was fine but if you don't want to be upset on your fun day on the beach, avoid going there if they are busy. The service was horrible and the staffs don't know how to work together.

The staffs who work on scooping ice cream and the cashiers clearly don't communicate. Literally, the boys who standed at the cashier counter were careless about what's going on around them and were only chatting with each other.

As the result, my order was taken away by the group before me. It took them a while to work out what went wrong, and to do that it had interrupted and slowed down other orders. Clearly this must have been why the line was sooo long.

Hope those boys I met today read my review. Don't go to work if you don't want to. Just stay home and play games or something that wouldn't ruin your...
