Palm Tree Lodge — Hotel in Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community

Great Place HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We stayed in a 6 bed room but it was just the 4 of us so very spacious. They provide all the bed linen, the bottom sheet fitted and also a top sheet and duvet and pillow. The room had a small kitchen with a stove, kettle, cups, and a sink. There were no pots or pans in the room but those can be taken from the main kitchen. The room also had it's own spacious bathroom with a shower toilet and basin. The room itself was very spacious with a table and chairs and lockers. The main kitchen was very big and had all the cooking requirements like pots, pans, serving spoons, plates, cups, cutlery kettles, fridges, ovens, stoves, microwaves etc. One of the sinks had filtered water as well. There was a dining area as well which was good. Only thing was kitchen was supposed to open at 6am but the security guy forgot and it was opened around 6:40 so that delayed us a bit but thats all good. Other than that very good value for money. Would definitely be back if up...

Booked a double deluxe room off booking.com. For it's price felt like a scam.

Poor amenities: Hot water turns off after 5 minutes Toilet flush is stuck Very stuffy room with poor ventilation No coffee/Tea No TV (but has TV bracket?) Sliding door was broken and wobbly and required unnecessary force to open Very noisy outside till late Curtain hinges don't slide properly.

And worst of all, I suspect the bathroom has formaldehyde. Caused red eye, stuffy nose, and difficulty breathing. Had to self medicate to control symptoms.

Checked out next day around 10am and went to complaint to front desk staff. They did confirm that the room was newly renovated thus further increased the likelihood of formaldehyde irritation. They brushed off our concerns and refused a refund given booking.com's policy.

The room condition may look good on photos but a lot of our complaints won't show up on photos. Very poor experience. Can't say for other rooms DO NOT book the double deluxe rooms...

A decent place for backpackers and travelers of the Northland! A quite big kitchen, a cosy lounge with a big screen to sit and enjoy Lord of the Rings 😁, bathrooms are okay, a lovely pool outside and the rooms are above the standards for a ordinary hostel in NZ. Only bad thing is that after 23:00 they lock up all the facilities and the way the security guards behave is not the best you can...
