My friend and I went to the rear parking behind the hotel at 7.30am this morning 21/12/2022 and were eyed by a male employee while we were trying to park. At first, it was a full stare down with the person at the ‘rear’ reception door. We ignored his stares and tried to smile. Then he proceeded by staring at us through the side jam and the door (in between the door hinge); which was extremely strange.
As we left the car and to come into the cafe, the male employee grumbled in Mandarin and told us off for parking at the rear. He wanted us to park in front of the cafe, by the roadside. We were confused and proceeded to walk to the Cafe. Usually the front park is occupied throughout the day.
He then walked through to the entrance of the Cafe to yell at us again, complaining despite there being no parking restrictions. (yes we can understand mandarin)
This does not make sense because the cafe sign shows a clear indicator to park at the rear.
Anyway, I would not come back to the cafe and hotel because of how much disgust the employee harboured for us. If the rear parking is not for cafe customers (even though the cafe and hotel are in the same building) , you should put a sign ‘hotel customers only’ at the rear parking, your employee was very hostile towards us both and if you would like your customers to be welcomed into such a cold environment, keep it up.
Edit in reply to owner: This review is not false or an unfair response as he is YOUR employee and is representative of YOUR hotel. Unpaid or not, we are potential customers that YOUR employee yelled at. Our experience is completely VALID as it is YOUR failure to post CORRECT SIGNAGE and obviously poor training of staff. Disappointed in your dismissal and will submit an...
Read moreStayed at Golden with my wife for a week in April and we had an excellent experience. Where do we start? First, location is perfect, close to restaurants and shopping areas in Riccarton. Also, really quick drive to the city center, parks, and highways. Central location and secure parking in their lot if you are renting a car. The hotel staff were so nice, helpful, and accommodating to all our requests (holding our big luggage and golf bags for a few days when we drove down to Central Otago/Mt. Cook). Overnight, our cars developed a ton of condensation due to the weather and the hotel staff even wiped our windows and mirrors before setting off for our drives. The rooms were recently renovated and bathrooms were clean, really spacious, and extremely comfortable (even had heater fans inside). Beds were pristine, really firm, and the TV had Netflix set up so we caught up on all our shows. Our rooms came with a fully loaded kitchen so we were able to cook a few meals with the produce we got from the farmers market. Another perk, if you like Vietnamese food, the coffee shop serves a surprisingly delicious Pho, which was even better than the Vietnamese Restaurant's Pho around the corner. Also, just like all the coffee we tried in NZ, the coffee was really good too. Compared to all the hotels we stayed in NZ, Golden was a breath of fresh air. Highly recommend. You can tell the ownership and staff...
