I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the parking infringement notice I received on Sunday, 8 June 2025 at 3:11 PM, at Westfield Riccarton.

My wife and I arrived at the mall at around 1:00 PM with our 1.5-year-old son. We were unable to find a parents’ parking spot, so we parked in a regular bay. We spent approximately 1.5 hours shopping and then had a coffee, which — as any parent will understand — took a bit longer due to having a toddler with us (about 30–45 minutes total).

When we returned to our car, we were shocked to find a $55 fine for overstaying by only 10–15 minutes. This was clearly not a deliberate breach — we were genuine paying customers, simply visiting the centre with our young child. We have shopping receipts as if any official wants proof.

Frankly, it is extremely disappointing to be fined for doing exactly what the parking is meant for: shopping at your own centre. This kind of treatment sends the wrong message to families and loyal customers. After this experience, we have decided not to return to Riccarton Mall again. Northlands Mall, which is closer to us and more family-friendly, will be our preferred destination...
