Typical Mövenpick hospitality you could expect. Location is perfect in a calm residential neighborhood, on a hill so views from the room and restaurants, easily walkable to almost all parts of the city while being just a 10 min walk to most happening parts of the city. Facilities wise they have small compact rooms that are comfortable and technology fitted, smaller bathrooms with modern fittings, a nice car park with electric charging, nice recreational facilities including indoor pool, sauna, and gym, amazing staff who makes your stay comfortable and your day great. Below is a detailed review of the property and facilities: Location: The hotel has a unique location in the midst of a quiet and very safe residential neighborhood a little away from the bustling city center. Yet it’s very walkable to the happening parts of city at a walk of 12 to 15 minutes. Although it’s located on a steep hill, yet you can take the VIP elevator down to the ground level that operates between 7 AM to 10 PM. Rooms: The rooms are very compact and have very little space to move around. The bed is king size and super comfortable. There is a work desk and chair, a nice big TV, and luggage keeping rack. If you have more luggage than 2 big suitcases, you will have no space to move around. The technology in the room is modern though with USB (B & C) charging points, as well as multiple electric points on both bed sides as well as the work area. The closet space is decent, while iron and ironing board are also provided in the closet, along with a nice power hair dryer. Bathroom: The bathroom is similarly smaller in size, yet has good modern fixtures. The amenities including hand wash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and moisturizer are pre installed at specific points in the bathroom. The shower cabin is small yet the water pressure was really good on the 7th Floor. Additional amenities are available and can be ordered from the housekeeping staff. Breakfast: The breakfast buffet was decent but has a fixed menu and same items were available both days. There is a decent selection of hot and cold breakfast options. While you can order omelettes and pancakes from the counter which are then served to your table. There is also ample selection of fresh fruit juices and smoothies, while a nice coffee machine with various types of coffee options is available for self serving. The plates at the Buffet have an interesting design which combined with the dark lighting in the are feels as if they are dirty but it’s only a design feature. Other Facilities: There is a covered and heated pool, sauna, and Gym area on the 1st floor. All are decent sized and have enough space. There is a kids activity room on the 2nd Floor with ample space for kids and activities placed including a large TV Screen. There is guest laundry on the 3rd Floor. The restaurant is on the 5th Floor which is same as the reception and main lobby. The VIP elevator is located in the far corner of the hotel and staff can guide you to it. All floors including your room are accessible only via a valid and working hotel key card. There is a Tesla destination charger (slow charger) as well as another EV charger in the basement. Staff: Super nice, friendly, and extremely helpful staff. They are so polite and always ready to help. Had taken the valet parking service, and they even charged the car for me while parked in their lot. There is EV charging available in the basement parking. Staff deserve 5 stars. Highly recommended for a peaceful and luxurious stay in Wellington.

We checked in and immediately noticed that the room was old and damaged, the blinds on a window would not open, stains on carpet, and a door to the bedroom that had been damaged and poorly repaired several times, and a broken bathroom drain it was dangerous to step on. That night we both struggled to sleep—I spent much of the night awake with allergies. I looked on top of the bed’s headboard and wardrobe and it was covered—covered!—in dust. I raised the dust, with pictures, to the manager, on top of the poor room quality. I stressed that it ruined our nights sleep, and gave me allergies that continued throughout the whole trip. He promised he would get the room cleaned “top to bottom”. I came back to the room several hours later, the bed was made, but the dust was entirely untouched. I called again, this time requesting a cloth so I could clean it up; it was very uncomfortable to be in the room at that point. The manager appeared with the head housekeeper a few minutes later. They offered to clean it again, once I showed them pictures for a third time. After 10 minutes in the room, they left. After they left, I checked again. They had cleaned the headboard, but completely skipped the top of the wardrobe. I had to chase the head housekeeper down the hallway and get them to come back. “This is very embarrassing and unacceptable” said the head housekeeper to me. There was weeks and weeks of dust on that wardrobe, right by the air vent too. At the end of this process I was exhausted and embarrassed and had very little faith in the staff of this hotel. By that point we had less than 16 hours left in our stay so we wanted as little contact with staff as possible. The cleaning helped somewhat, but the room was still so dusty. I will never be staying in a Mövenpick hotel again, and recommending anybody else to avoid this chain.

I didnt like the fact that the chocolates were mostly "white"chocolate (which ISNT chocolate by the way), and that only one bowl of banana came out for the chocolate fountain, despite me asking more for the guests who kept coming. Movenpick stands for sweet...chocolate...ice cream. That is what public/consumers relate to when they see Movenpick! Why is the hotel so stingy on presenting more options... the chocolate hour should be laden with all sorts of chocolatey goodness and loads of seasonal fruits and biscuit options. Pretzels, Mashmellows and one bowl of banana is just too shameful. This hotel is only just scratching the surface (if that)... for it to survive it must make the complimentary chocolate hour...bigger, better, tastier and memorable! This hotel is only a one stay experience and that too...not a very memorable one. Unless they take this as a suggestion and make movenpick an "absolute destination" for anyone coming into Wellington...thry have no future here in NZ! The room was too small to fit 3 guests...we were told superior twin would fit 4 adults...but when we went in...there were only 2 "single" beds!!! How can anyone fit 4 adults in this superior twim is beyond me! Even the staff said that the room was small for 3 guests! Glad she didnt charge us for the roller bed which wasnt comfortable either. The superior twin does not have sky tv or complimentary water. The case in the bathroom was broken...should be discarded. What really annoyed me is when the hotel doesnt pay attention to details! When there are 3 guests staying in a room...there needs to be "3" bath and face towels provided as well! And also annoying when they dont provide enough milk for 3 guests! Cant justify how NZ hotels get their 5 star rating. The buffet was good and the staff were pleasant to deal with.

Based on my experience, I would give Movenpick Wellington 5/5. I stayed on April 30th-May 1st 2023

Walking in the hotel, it is well presented and clean with lush furnishings. Complimentary tea and biscuits, help yourself on arrival. (Some might find the particular room smell at reception a bit overwhelming at first but it actually is nice once you get use to it) some kind of incents ??

The GYM, Sauna & Pool were also clean and well presented. My son thoroughly loved the pool. Would be good to have a few extra pool toys but I know it gets hard when sharing the pool with all ages. It is warmed but not as warm as you would think like a public indoor pool, once your in though it's lovely. The kids room, although I didn't explore too much, caters to 0-3 year olds? Also very clean and tidy. My room was lovely. Probably a bit larger than most (9th floor) it had great views and generously stocked with coffee, tea and sugar. Although I was excited to try the manuka bathroom products, I found they had replaced them with larger mounted bottles for a more earth conscience approach which I was very happy about. From check-in to check-out the staff were very attentive and patient. They went above and beyond to cater to me and my 3 year old non verbal Autistic son and made some very special amendments for our stay, as it was for his 3rd birthday.

I also experienced: Takeaway coffee from the bar Room service dinner Valet parking Late Check-out (do it!) - I left at 3pm, nice not to rush, had a swim with the little guy, had a nice shower, washed hair, dry and grabbed a free coffee (compliments of being an Accor member) it was so quiet in the hotel, worth the money, personally.

I would have loved to have dinner in the restaurant, so nice with great views. The staff member who served my coffee was attentive and lovely.

Valet parking would get expensive if staying more than 1 night however it was nice not to worry about my car, ANYWHERE you go in Wellington its hard to find parks and is TIGHT. alot of streets turn into 1 way.

Room service was fast and yummy.

Other people's reviews are a bit confusing. Might be best to research hotel vs motel vs holiday inn, motor inn or air bnb for expectations?

I have stayed at many different accommodation styles and it was just nice to walk out of the hotel smiling and feeling it was money well spent.

I definitely will come back. Despite anything or everything, the thing that made it 5/5 was the staff's attentiveness, willing to help, fast service that made my stay so good. Thank you...

This hotel is not recommended.

We booked a family suite for my wife’s birthday as a treat—thinking the hotel will have great food, or at least Mövenpick ice cream for the kids.

What we got what a nightmare.

The day before we are due to fly into Wellington, we got a call to say there was a leak issue and we have been moved to standard rooms. Note that there is a significant price difference here and they have downgraded us. At this point, we have already paid in full.

On arrival we expected to be refunded the difference and perhaps even some small compensation for the downgrade. Instead we were told the rooms they gave us is “even better” and is “even bigger” for a family.

Neither of these were true. There is over $250 difference between the original booking and the room we got. In addition, the usable floor space is less.

We waited a day for them to do the right thing—but in the end we have to confront them where we got another staff telling us “not to worry, we won’t charge you MORE for this better deal.”

We had to make a new booking in front of them to show that the downgraded rooms for the nights were $750, whereas the suit was well over a thousand. Then staff muttered some poor excuse about how “he didn’t bother to check the prices”—before telling us we got a “great deal”.

They agreed to pay us $150. Perhaps math is not their strong suit.

So yeah—they totally breached the fair trading act and couldn’t care less. If we didn’t make a fuss, we wouldn’t even get the $150 and we are still $100 out of pocket….

As for the Mövenpick experience—no Mövenpick ice cream in sight for the kids. They got tip top or some other generic brand. Chocolate hour was pretty lame—and do not expect great treats. It was edible but not five star quality desserts on offer here.

Yes—we had to measure food based on whether it is edible.

On our last morning—the breakfast scrambled eggs were so salty they were not edible. The only positive out of that was to see the look on other people’s faces when they taste it for the first time. A mixture of “how the hell can they put this out for us to eat” and “why the hell did I put myself through this by booking here?”

Avoid. It was a memorable birthday for sure but not the way...
