For the third year in a row we have stayed at Fossil Bay Lodge and once again we have found it to be the best place for price to stay on Waiheke. We always stay in the tents / yurts and this summer all four have been replaced with newer models so are crisp and clean.||||We like to stay in yurt number 1 which is one of the smaller yurts cost $110 per night, it is set away from the main path so is a bit more private. The bed must have been updated as well as we found it to be a bit firmer than previous. On this occasion we were on Waiheke for the sculpture on the gulf with five other friends, we had 3 yurts and one cabin. The cabin is cute but basic suitable for our single friend with toilet facilities in the main house, cost $70 Per night. The other two yurts were #2 & 3 the larger option $120 cost per night.||||We love being able to enjoy meals (self catering) outside under the large flame tree with a refreshing glass of wine after being on Oneroa beach which is only a 10 min walk away.||||The shared cooking facilities are maintained to a good standard as long as other guests clean up after themselves, shame on those who don't !||||We would highly recommend Fossil Bay Lodge as a place to stay that's kind of quirky and different with a slight hippy vibe. ||Important: make sure you bring ear plugs as this year the frogs in the pond were making one hell of a racket and on previous years the other wild life made their voices heard loud and clear...
Read moreReally I cannot say enough about this place. I will try and keep it short and to the point. The tents are beautiful and a joy to stay in. The are bigger than you would expect and nicely decorated inside. The private bathroom and shower is convenient, clean, and comfortable. The common space is unique and equipped with everything you need. Good shared kitchen that is well equipped and fun to hang out in. The grounds are a pleasure to hang out in. We spend many hours reading, writing, and taking pictures of ducks. Beautiful Gardens which feel special to spend time in. The area is perfect for a quite get away that is conveniently located. It’s a 15 minute walk to town for groceries or any meals you need. But the lodge is removed enough that you are in a quite place that you could relax on all day. Beautiful walks just a few minutes down the road that hug the coast and have beautiful views/ private beaches the whole way.
Mike, the host, was just the cherry on top. Very respectful and gives you your space but if you engage in conversation he is wonderful to talk to and swap stories. A friend after a very short time. Thanks Mike for everything!
10/10 for a thoughtful and relaxing getaway. Our only complain was we...
Read moreA tranquil oasis just walking distance from Oneroa. I have been twice to Fossil Bay lodge now and cannot wait to return. There are gorgeous walks all around- Costal, vineyards, looks outs. The lodge is so well placed to reach the main centre of Oneroa (buses, cafes & shops) there are also a number of beautiful swimming beach walking distance.
It was such a joy waking up to birdsong and seeing the shadows of trees cast onto the side of the spacious bell tents. The beds and linen provided are high quality and everything is placed with such care in each tent/cabin. The facilities were always tidy.
We loved having an outdoor shower by the tent, privately tucked away with greenery sheltering all around.
When we took a break from sampling the local vineyards and returants it was great to be able to cook our own meals in the lovely kitchen and choose from a number of spots to relax around the lodge and watch the sunset.
The owner and his family are such kind people and it was a pleasure meeting them and hearing about their Waiheke story.
What a blessing it was to find such a beautiful space- I look forward to returning shortly and...
