From the United States, staying for one night. Our travel agent booked two nights, but NZ Air cancelled a flight, leaving us stranded in our departure location for the night. Of course, Aukland Harbour Oaks (AHO) would not reimburse us.
Trust previous guests' posts. They situated AHO right in a district surrounded by strip clubs & taverns. We have a room on the 19th floor & through the open window can hear nothing but intoxicated men shouting & the sound of loud gusts of wind (the latter, expected). The room could have used some more cleaning. It has a moderate unpleasant aroma of must/mildew. The windows had gooey fingerprints on them (I don't want to know). They had the room straightened up well, though, but the bed skirt drags on the floor & promotes tripping & stumbling about the small bedroom. They adorned the room sparsely with cheap, antiquated nightstands straight from 198X. We've got a balcony that extends about 8" out for our view of Penthouse night club & the docks brining in cheap Chinese merchandise. Fun fun... They have few amenities. They don't sport a restaurant & their pool closed at 2100 (9:00 PM). They have no room service. If they do, I have no idea because they provide zero information about the hotel--no brochures or guides. They don't stock the fridge with anything but some coffee creamers (but I suspect that previous guests left those in the fridge & the hurried housekeeping staff just left them in there). The apartment comes equipped with an oven, range, microwave, toaster, & laundry machines (none of which we intend to use due to the nature of our trip). The tub floor really requires resurfacing. The toilet seat has a broken seat. The flush buttons must have broke, so their maintenance staff (the same person as housekeeping I suspect) taped--yes... literally--it on the wall with clear packaging tape. LOL... This place... OMG... It's just held together by tape! Don't lean on the railing on your little, teeny balcony!!! Lastly... The staff... These poor, poor people. Tonight (Friday night) they have only ONE desk clerk who has to juggle stupid questions like mine, people checking in, people complaining, answering the calls from rooms & public, and (I suppose) anything else needed to run a huge hotel. She deserves a medal for not going absolutely postal. All in all... For fewer than $150, this place might cut it. But, do not pay the going price or you will regret it.
Pro: A kind desk person who has to deal with too much. Con: Too much happening at the desk. Way, WAY too many policies that guests must adhere to. Pro: A room on the 19th floor Con: This view from the 19th floor (& we're on the corner) overlooking strip clubs & shipping yards. Con: No restaurant & no utilization of their rooftop view. Pro: Refrigerator & kitchen appliances Con: Not stocked whatsoever. Pro: Um... a bathroom. Con: Let this sink in, people: They fixed the toilet with mailing/packaging tape. Pro: Wifi available Con: Their wifi is about as spotty as a...
Read moreThank you to the staff member who was able to find us a parking spot. This gentleman went above and beyond good service he was excellent. The staff were wonderful and super friendly your kindness and helpfulness was warm welcoming. Excellent staff manners. As for the rooms they were clean and it smelt nice when you walked in and the bathrooms were very clean. We had visitors and we had plenty of room to accommodate my family. Our view was impressive as we had a beautiful panoramic views in all 3 rooms excellent even my family said it was impressive. The hallways were super quiet. And I liked that😄 Our rooms were clean and the beds were so comfortable I slept like a log. Our beds were made up everyday unless we left clothing on our beds they left a courtesy card which was a brilliant way to communicate the reasons for not making our beds. Otherwise we had freshly made beds. I even left expensive jewellery by mistake and it was where I found it honesty is a huge thing for me so your staff & room consultants is to be excellently commended thank you! This hotel was excellent as we could walk to the banks the sky tower the harbour and it was accessible to main shops and the famous white ladies food caravan where we all had their famous burgers & chips when we used to come out of nightclubs at 2.00am in the morning years ago. Great for guests when providing dinner. Yes the best burgers even today 40 years later. I loved how we were only 5 minutes away from Woolworths and 2 minutes from mart food or 7/11 stores if we ran out of milk or drinks chips the newspaper etc. we could just walk down and get it. The transport we were able to travel and find easy access to all highways 15 minutes to mission Bay. I give Auckland Harbour suites a four star. May I suggest phones be placed in the stair well that when you get stuck in the exit stairwell we can ring security like I did 😄 I think I lost a couple of kilos lol. After climbing 14 floors 😆 Thank you Auckland Harbour suites we will definitely be coming back if we can get the same room. We...
Read moreWhen I arrived and was allocated a parking space (for $45!) both the male members of staff who came down to show me where to park abruptly turned and walked away as soon as I had parked. As I had no idea where they went, or how to get into the building from the car park I had to then carry all my luggage out the car park, through the streets to the entrance of the building. I discovered the next morning at checkout that there was an internal access.
My daughter and I decided to travel down the stair well when we were going out in the evening. There was crusty dried in pools of vomit on several of the staircases. When we got to the ground floor there was a spooky flickering light and puddles on the floor. The fire exit door was LOCKED from the inside, we had to venture all the way back up to the 7th floor (all the fire doors on each level were locked!). Once back in our floor we had to bang on the door to get out and thankfully another guest let us out.
The toilet in our suite did not flush very easily. There was no internal lock on the door. The balcony door was very hard to open.
There was an incident in the lift at 10.30pm when my daughter and I came home. We had no choice to get into the lift with 3 male guests. As we got to our floor one of the male guests, who had no reason to exit the lift, got out behind us and followed a few steps behind us, when I turned around be stopped and ran back to the lift. This unnerved us. Had NO internal lock. Contemplated leaving the suite and driving hundreds of kms home. Eventually decided to stay but had to open the oven and dishwasher to block the entrance to our room in order to feel safe.
The strip club across the road was so loud that we struggled to sleep. Had to leave the TV on to down out the noise.
The rooms were very hot and old air con system also very loud. Left this morning absolutely shattered.
The pictures that are displayed for the accommodation are seriously not an accurate representation of what the actual...
