Went up to Auckland for four nights and stayed at the Avani residences. Location was excellent and when we arrived our first impression of the building was of its grandeur. The building facade was nice and dignified.the interiors however, especially within rooms, look a little worse for wear – there were scuff marks on doors. Air-conditioning is also suspect in rooms and dialing it down to the coldest temperature does nothing to cool down the room .We had to open windows at night. One night, we were asked to pick up soap from concierge because "housekeeping had gone off for the day", even though it was housekeeping who did not replace finished soap during their regular daily rounds in the first place. In fact, one day while we were in the room when housekeeping was at work, we realised that the extent of their duty seemed to be just in making the bed – the toilets were not looked over, rubbish wasn't cleared, and the sink not attended to. To be fair, it could be that our presence in the room threw them for a loop. Internet, the life force for all millennials, was DISMAL. we kept dropping out of wifi and it was impossible to get any mail attachments downloaded because of that. This is an issue that was not resolved the whole time we were there, even though we had multiple conversations with the staff about it. We were given a passcode for "employee access" as opposed to the guest login, but that did nothing to remedy the situation. We were clear it was a signal strength issue, or connectivity problems, but the insistence of the staff on trying the new passcode made us feel condescended to (because logging in the same network with a different password is not going to solve signal strength/router problems...) That being said, the rooms were comfortable, very spacious, and affordable for its location and size. Would recommend the place if you get a different room from us (we stayed on the 13th floor). There is a washer and dryer, and full kitchen facilities and all the utensils you may need. It's also near freyburg square, which is a nice place with quaint eateries, bars, shops etc. A stone's throw away from...
Read moreWe don’t entirely feel comfortable piling on the accolades this establishment has already received, as we want to be able to find a vacancy and afford to come back here in the future. We want to keep this gem hidden. On the other hand, we want to remind ourselves of the wonderful experiences we had enjoyed here—recorded here for posterity—and give props to the management team. The location next to Albert Park and near the Art Gallery cannot be surpassed. It’s only a seven-minute walk to Britomart. While there isn’t an on-site restaurant or bar, the guest can easily forage nearby for breakfast or dinner options at all price points, since it’s in the middle of the CBD. The décor in the public areas is a wee dated. Think 1980s Dynasty television with lots of terrazzo and shoulder pads, and the building is a huge post-modern monster that one cannot miss it in the skyline. However, if one choose to accept it on its own terms, it’s campy fun. ||Many of the rooms here, which have separate sleeping, sitting and kitchen areas, feature spectacular views of the harbour skyline or Albert Park, from full-length, full-height Juliette or small balconies. The staff really earned compliment when things did go wrong—such as wifi not working, and addressing them immediately. During my stay, they were keenly interested in the quality of my stay, and if there were areas for improvement. It delivers on the the basics: cleanliness, adequate room temperature control, good toilet pressure and water temperature controls in the bathroom, just enough electrical outlets to charge your piles of modern junk, workable wi-fi, decent lighting options in various zones of the room, adequate array of towels, tons if fresh air if you like that, and non-daily housekeeping, which works for us. We would be grateful if we get the chance to return, lest all these positive testimonials preclude this...
Read moreDear Viresh, Regarding your response to my review, after 23hs you are well aware that all complaints go through the HOTEL reception. Therefore, my experience with your rude staff and the lack of action regarding the noises coming from YOUR hotel guest is directly related to the hotel itself. As a result, my review is very well-founded. I recently moved at Avani Metropolis, a hotel that offers both hotel rooms and residences. Unfortunately, my experience has been absolutely terrible due to several issues with the hotel.
First and foremost, the staff is consistently rude and unhelpful, both at the hotel reception and the residents' reception. The manager, in particular, is extremely arrogant and dismissive. When I complained several times about the noise and parties happening in the hotel, the staff never provide any solutions, only excuses. I was told "there is nothing we can do" or "you should call the police." When I did call the police, they said they couldn't help with these kinds of issues. It is frustrating to feel like no one is taking my complaints seriously (not even the property manager).
The noise and partying in the hotel were also significant problems. People were moving furniture and being loud at all hours of the night, which made it impossible to sleep. I suggested solutions, such as putting felt pads on the furniture to reduce noise, but the hotel didn't do anything to address the issue. Additionally, the hotel rooms and residences are all mixed, which make the noise problems even worse.
Overall, I cannot recommend Avani Metropolis based on my experience. The staff is unhelpful and rude, and the noise and partying in the hotel is unbearable. If you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing stay, this is not the...
