Panamonte Inn & Spa — Hotel in Bajo Boquete

Take out the human element (indifferent hostess & inattentive waiter) and this restaurant would get 4 stars. Superb food in serene setting tastefully decorated for Christmas though more flair could be added to presentation of main courses.

We heard about chef Charlie Collins from Panamanian host at Dubai Expo 2020 who raved about the restaurant, so we booked online upon arrival in Boquete. When we approached the hostess stand @7pm, our names did not appear despite receiving an email confirmation. The hostess pointed lazily in the direction of the somewhat empty dining room not attempting to seat us. The situation did not improve with the advent of our waiter who avoided direct eye contact & mumbled softly behind his COVID mask. Requests for drinks or bread were laborious. We felt like intruders instead of guests.

The main courses of broiled trout & jumbo shrimp were excellently prepared though blandly presented. The chocolate cake with ice cream was beautiful as well as moist and creamy.

The finale to our evening almost ended disastrously except for the hotel receptionist who secured us a taxi. This occurred after our disappointing waiter indicated he’d called one 20 minutes earlier.

Overall, the anticipated culmination of our time in Boquete with a wonderful dining experience left a bittersweet taste...

When we arrived the girl at the front desk was super friendly and welcoming. We were given a strawberry welcome drink. A nice bellhop helped us to our room. He too was very nice. The room had a king bed and was very spacious. We were given 4 water bottles per day which was much appreciated. The first night we had dinner at the restaurant and the food was outstanding. We agreed the best we’ve had in Panama. The waitress was nice just not super attentive. We had breakfast every morning at the restaurant and I would say the same thing- great food, nice waitresses just not the best service. Very slow and inattentive. If the waitstaff matched the quality of the food this could be a five star restaurant. The grounds of the hotel are stunning. Lush gardens which are beautifully maintained. We came to the bar one night for happy hour. The bartender was kind and knowledgeable and made great drinks. I loved my stayat Hotel Panamonte, the front desk staff were outstanding. The resturant staff were okay. The gentleman who attended to me at breakfast my first day was great, but the others not so much. Very difficult to get their attention despite only a few customers in the house. I was so thirsty and could not get their attention to order something to drink.||Still my spacious clean room, the lovely grounds and decor, made my stay very relaxing and totally enjoyable. I will definitely return. Construction was underway on the grounds, but it was remarkable how disturbance was minimal.||One suggestion - have a list of hotel services in the room. I needed some clothes laundered but as there was no laundry bag or info in the room, I assumed it was not a service the hotel offered. The day I was checking out I enquired where to go to get this done in town. The receptionist said the hotel offers the service, but of course it was too late to have it done that day.
