Stayed here for about a week. Nice view, big grassy area for hanging out in the sun, playing ping pong, doing flips and stretches. They also have yoga mats, a video game machine, and a small book exchange. Lots of chairs, so when everyone at the hostel played drinking games on a Friday night, we all had somewhere to sit.
Live music at the beer house downstairs everyday except Monday & Tuesday apparently. I enjoyed that, it was like background noise when in the dorm. I think when the staff played music on the speaker during the daytime it was a bit too loud for my comfort, but they didn't stop me from lowering the volume.
Free breakfast of pancakes you make yourself, you won't be the only one bad at making them 😂 My first attempt, I thought the bottle had to be turned over to get the mix out so when it squirted out the bottom instead, I got a glob of it on my shoe. Flipped the pancakes too early so they were messy blobs on the griddle. With the breakfast, you also have JIF peanut butter, Welch's grape jelly, strawberry jam, brown sugar, oatmeal, coffee, and hot chocolate for free! Only wish they had regular pancake syrup.
I found it strange that there were no spatulas except the pancake ones, which were put away after they cleaned the pancake area. There's a cubby with the number for each bed for storing your dry food. Big fridge, always found space but nothing to label food with so you have to remember whose food is whose (many people bought similar food and drinks). Sandwich press! I made grilled cheese sandwiches for hikes real fast. They also have an electric kettle, microwave, and toaster.
Very comfortable beds and hammocks (wish there were more than 2). Beds are separated into individual cubbies with curtains. There's also a light, power socket, and lock box (bring your own lock). I found this extra nice for when people left/arrived real early or late, wasn't disturbed if people turned the light on in the dorm when my curtain was closed.
They gave us a big blanket, but I didn't use it cuz when I had the curtain closed, it was hot in bed. The showers were cold my first 3 days, but eventually they got the broken part replaced and it was hot again. Owner was real nice and helpful, answering all my questions in person and WhatsApp. Came quick to bring more gas for the stove when I was getting hangry after the volcano hike. Brought more pancake mix when it ran out before everyone could make some. They could clean the bathrooms more often, but they were nice to do it right away when I asked.
To find the hostel, you walk into the beer house's outdoor seating area and up the black steps behind the food truck. WiFi worked great my entire stay. Booked from Lost & Found Hostel and got 15% discount here. I heard they're doing renovations at Blasina soon, so might be closed for a bit....
Read moreWe had a pleasant stay there. Thomas, the manager was lovely, kind and helpful. Everything was modern and well equipped. The outside area and the common area is very nice and welcomes you to relax or connect with other backpackers. The vibe of the people was nice. The kitchen is clean and offers everything you need. You get a discount for the bar underneath the hostel and for a restaurant. Due to the fact that you're sleeping in small "cabins" it does not feel like a 14 dorm at all. Your bed is very private and cozy. We loved that. The only negative point about the dorm is that there is not much space. There are 3 bathrooms but only one sink inside the dorm which is not optimal at all. Everything is clean though. What's also missing is space to put your stuff down. Even some hooks in the dorm would help a lot. The bar next to the hostel can get a little bit noisy on the weekends because of live music. Unfortunately it took some time when we asked for new soap, new toilet paper or new dish soap. We had to ask three times.
All in all I can recommend you the hostel for your stay in Boquete. The price...
Read moreThe hostel itself is OK. I booked a 10 bed dorm, but in fact it is 16 bed dorm. Not the cleanest hostel, a couple of times there was no toiletpaper and no soap. 1 sink for 16 people is to less and less water out of the shower.
We had some issues with the manager so he cancelled my booking that we couldn’t make a review. He promised that our laundry was ready in the evening. We asked the first time at 9pm and he said it takes 30 more minutes, we asked a couple of times more and he said it would be ready soon, but at 00:30 we found out by ourself that the laundry was still in the washing machine. When we try to contact him, he was not available. The next morning, he didn’t gave it to us, he just dropped it off at the dryer place. Everybody just could take it. We took it by ourself, because he didn’t communicate anything to us. After a day we said to him that is not nice and he just ignored the problem, no sorry from him, just a booking cancellation after the stay. He also forgot to book the coffeetour we asked for. A lot of times there was nobody...
