Hostal Sol de Oro Backpackers — Hotel in Arequipa

we arrived in the middle of the night and the nicest hostel guy ever went all in an got us our (not reserved) beds hours before the usual check in time. just to show just how amazing the staff here is. they really go out of their way to make your stay as perfect as possible. with information, getting you confiable taxis in the middle of the night or making extras work without extra price. the breakfast is more then you usually get, fresh from the market and made with love. you can drink as much tea as you like and use the kitchen like you need it. it’s a really nice way to run a hostal with everyone just washing their own dishes it’s not that much bering a hostel guest and more visiting like a friend as the staff will also talk with you if you want to. all in all we extended our stay, maybe also because of the swing-bench on the beautiful sunny terrasse,...

Like most of the other reviews, we’ve been traveling for 6 months and this is not only the dirtiest accommodation we’ve had, we also came back to our room to find that around 800 soles had been stolen from a book that was packed away in the bottom of a 70L pack. Yes, the door was locked. Unfortunately, the Hostel World reviews are quite the opposite to the google reviews. From what I can tell this guy Christian or someone close to him has been fleecing people for a while. Normally we wouldn’t leave money in the room but we are traveling to Argentina soon and needed to save up to buy some USD. He also got one of our $100 USD but left the $20 and the $5. We stayed in this hostel a group of 6 for two nights. The hostel wasn't really clean. After the second night we rented a room just for our luggage. After taking money out from the ATM we left our wallets in the room locked. We went to the gaming area, and after 4 hours we left for lunch. Money from three different wallets was stolen from a locked room in the hostal! And then we checked our luggage's and discovered that 200$ were also stolen! Our group and the hostal manager were the only people at the hostel. When we spoke to the manger (Christian) he blamed us for loosing the money and didn't took any responsibility at all. He gave us the money of our staying after the involvement of the police. In conclusion I don't recommend go to this hostal and if you decided to go keep your money with you...
