We stayed twice in this hotel. It has a somewhat dated feel, though our room was comfortable and high enough up to not be troubled by street noise. The bathroom had been modernised at some time with the bath replaced by a shower and 3 modern downlights over the basin; but we gave up on getting all three lights to illuminate at once! The view from our window looking north over the colonial centre was very unspectacular. The foyer had a high ceilinged lounge area which was very dark, but the restaurant for breakfast was bright as it had once been open to the street. The breakfast buffet was adequate.||The hotel is very conveniently located, for the Desamparados Station, for seeing the central sights, and has a shorter, more predictable transfer time to the airport. It is however in a slightly edgy area - the street lighting isn't too good, and there is a security guard on duty during the night outside a locked entrance. Better to eat early and go back to the hotel. Plenty of good eating options within easy walking distance. And a big plus is the large Metro supermarket/household goods store just a block away. The service we received from the front desk...
Read moreThe higher ratings I gave this hotel is because of the staff and not the hotel its self. The room is out dated and worn, but is a nice big space. The bedding is worn yet clean, and the bed was very comfortable. The room had no off smell in spite of its older appearance. The shower grout had mildew, but not too bad. The hotel is in a “safe” area with lots to see and walking about is no worries. The room was quiet from street noise and shower worked perfectly. Aside from these physical aspects, the staff were really great. They were cheerful, genuinely happy for us to stay and offered many suggestions on things to do and places to go - without us asking and this was not a sales pitch but just being helpful. The map was for tourists and easy to understand. The location of the Hotel Continental was great for shopping, walking and sightseeing. The breakfast that was included was simple and not a buffet style. We ordered eggs and it was served with toast and all you could drink serve yourself coffee that was very good. I would stay here again...
Read moreThis hotel is located close the down town plaza area. My intentions on staying here was to be able to walk around and see the sites more after our tours, but with controversial elections going on, there was a lot of protesting and areas being shut down, so we mainly just stayed in our rooms. The rooms were very nice. Especially our King Suite. Very large and comfy! The shower was nice, but getting warm water was not always possible. I took my first cold shower here. The front desk was great and spoke some English. A grocery store was just around the corner, along with several restaurants to choose from. Wifi was good. They did lock the front door after dark, which was great for safety but made it hard to leave and come back, since we got locked out once going to the...
