My flight was delayed and got into the hotel around 1 am. From the outside the hotel looks like an abandoned building, there are no stickers or anything indicative of the building being a working hotel. I walked past it a few times and eventually asked a police officer for assistance and he walked me to the hotel (he said its a rough neighborhood). We rang the doorbell three times and finally, someone answered. The guy was giving me a hard time and said my reservation was not valid, but the officer told him to cut the BS. The main lobby is beautiful but that's it. As soon as I stepped foot inside my room I felt like I was in a crackhouse. I was so tired I just said whatever and took it as an adventure. I was immediately greeted by what I think was a used toilet paper roll and two very thin, opened soap bars..pretty sure they were all used. Don't know if the bed sheets were clean but I did not want to risk it so I slept with my jacket on and used my backpack as a pillow. I couldn't really sleep because it was loud, there was a light on, and I kept on thinking on the cleanliness of the bed. I got up at around 8 am and was greeted by a friendlier lady and she made me some toast and tea. She was super nice and she's the only reason I did not rate this...
Read moreHotel Belen looks beautiful from the outside and in the main lobby. It is an old building with lots of character. The issues begin when you get into your room. Our room was quite large with 4 beds, one for each of us. The washrooms were gross, with broken tiles and mouldy corners. The toilet wasn’t flushing properly. It had beautiful antique doors that open up with a view of the plaza out front. This was great during the day, but the noise kept us up all night. Cars honking, people partying, and the music from the bars. I don’t know if this is common in Peru, but I saw some HUGE cockroaches in this place, and I didn’t see them in the 2 other places we stayed. The staff was very friendly and helpful with directions, places to go and what a fair cost would be for a taxi. The wifi was not reliable. It didn’t work on my phone at all, but it worked on and off on my...
Read moreHotel Belen||The hotel is conveniently located to shopping and restaurants. Staff are helpful. It's also very cheap.||But the place is a real dump. It is in a terrible state of disrepair. When repairs have been made, they were done poorly. Paint is splattered all over everything, grout from repaired tiles is smeared all over. Every effort to maintain the property looks like it was done in the dark. It's minimally clean, ie. the center of the floors get mopped, but there's grime in the corners. The noise from the street is awful and it's difficult to sleep for the noisy traffic and people on the...
