Dear Maury Hotel. You are a national|treasure fallen on hard times. I can imagine the glitterati flocking here 100 years ago when Monsieur Maury was alive but now I am afraid you are badly in need of some tender loving care. You need sizeable investment to restore yourself to your former glory. Having said that and taking into account the foibles I don't regret staying here and dreaming of the way it once was. It has a brilliant location right in the historic centre with the main square Plaza de Armas, cathedral, beautiful churches and museums round the corner. If being in the cultural centre amid historic colonial buildings and quality restaurants is for you then this is the place to be. If you want modern trendy hotels and restaurants and a typical US/European shopping mall then stay in Miraflores. You take...
Read moreAlmost all the positive reviews left for this place concern the wonderful bar, Pisco Sours and the bar man. Many have been left by people who have never stayed there. The hotel is ineptly run by disinterested staff who provide comical advice on such matters as how to get hot water - ‘run the shower for 10 mins’ (no change) ‘run the shower for 20 mins’ ( ditto) ‘run the shower and the sink for 20 mins’. It might be easier to just admit “there is no hot water”! The rooms are comfortable and clean ( other than dirty looking carpets). The corridors have some nice artwork. The breakfast area is another magnificently panelled room like the bar. This doesn’t quite make up for the terrible breakfast of cold scrambled eggs...
Read moreThe room was great with a massive bed and a great location for walking to sights around town. However, like others have said previously no wifi staff are no good unless you speak english. I wasn't told about breakfast either, found my own way there then they started removing the food as others were arriving for breskfast. But here is the real kicker upon checking out I asked if a taxi could be called and i was advised that the guard would hail one down for me......No guard.....The first couple of taxi's didn't go to the airport and then I was lucky to enough...
