We had a party of four and arrived on Wednesday. The hotel is on a beautiful, tree lined street in a very nice area. It is a very short walk to a variety of nice restaurants. Le Cordon Bleu (the only one in South America) is across the street from the hotel. The hotel grounds are well kept and nicely landscaped. The hotel’s glass door entrance is right at the sidewalk and a doorman was always there 24/7. The entrance was locked our entire stay making us feel very safe. The person at the front desk and all of the remainder of the staff were polite, friendly, and extremely accommodating. We had rooms 215 and 216. Both rooms were very clean. Bed linens were nice and crisp, towels were new, clean, and plush. No elevator in that wing of the hotel, but very easy to get the luggage to the room. There were four steps, a landing, and four more steps to the second floor. Both rooms were generous in size with large bathrooms and nice clean showers. There were no tubs. The receptacles accommodated both 220v and 110v appliances/phone chargers, etc. One room had a refrigerator the other did not. Room 216 smelled musty the entire stay. The room was so damp that the clothes in our suitcases stayed damp. There were large cracks completely surrounding the frosted glass window in the bathroom which definitely attributed to the room’s dampness. The bathroom walls in 216 stayed wet with condensation until room service wiped them down each day. Room 215 was not damp nor musty smelling. Every night after 10:00 pm, there was a lot of street noise, banging of trash cans, people talking loudly on the street and dogs barking. This lasted into the night. Each morning at the break of dawn, the songbirds began singing and chirping. The first two nights were quiet inside the hotel but on the Friday night, several people came up the stairs in the wee hours of the morning. They were shouting loudly at each other, slamming doors and carrying on. This went on for a couple of hours. There was a breakfast every morning. It looked and smelled delicious and had lots of choices but we didn’t try it. There was a safe in each room to store valuables. The room furnishings were old and could benefit from a little updating. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk to the Pacific Ocean with a beautiful view. There is also a beautiful Catholic church in walking distance Overall, it was a nice place to stay and I would go back. But I would ask for a different room and see what it’s like before agreeing to it to avoid the damp, musty...
Read moreThe flight of my fiance got canceled by Avianca and they got her the room here to spend the day until to board the next flight. As she was about to fly alone, the airline booked a single room, that's okay, to spend the day (not the night) from 10 am - 9 pm. As everyone can imagine, she was devastated with the stress and emotionally very sad about the situation. As we arrive, I was prohibited to go upstairs with her to be there for here. After explaining the supervisor the situation, she only allowed me to go up with her and leave her luggage there. I understand hotel policies, and responsibilities, however, empathy and service are in tourism #1 leading factor which was not presented here at all. They literally rejected us and closed the doors, knowing about the situation we were in, especially my fiance. After understanding that the supervisor was not willing to open up and collaborate, next to charging me $30 to get access (which is again just ridiculous, as I was not about to take advantage of any of their amenities), I just recognized that this ends in nothing but more desperation. After heading up, the room was smelling to paint and my fiance was feeling even worse. How can this possible be, knowing the person who arrives just had an emotional setback and is frustrated, and not making sure that she'll be fine. We're very disappointed by how the hotel managed this situation, hope that they'll understand this review to reconsider their 'policies' and attention to service. It's not difficult, it's just working with heart and mind, making sure that your clients have the best time and feel welcome and comfortable. All the best to the El Tambo team and take this review to your heart,...
Read moreEl Tambo Uno is located in the Miraflores district of Lima. This is the area where most tourists stay and it a pretty safe neighborhood. It is located about 45-60 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic. The hotel itself is clean and simple. The staff is very friendly and will help you with anything you need. Breakfast is included with your stay (has offerings like bread, fruit, cereal, fresh juices, scrambled eggs, coffee, yogurt, etc.) and they have a resturant on site if you would like to stay at the hotel to buy your dinner. If you want to go out, the hotel is very close to Mercado 28 which offers a ton of different food options and Larcomar, which is an open air shopping center that has many high-end stores and resturant offerings, is only a 10 minute walk away.
The rooms are decent size and the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and there is a ton of hot water available for showering. There is a hairdryer, shampoo, and body wash available in each bathroom. They also have water dispensers for you to refill your bottles which is fantastic because many hotels in Peru make you buy water (the tap water in Peru is not potable) The only drawbacks are the push button door locks (these are not very safe if someone were to try to break in...not that I ever had so much as an inkling that someone would try) and many of the windows won't lock (this is only really an issue if you are on the first floor).
Overall, I would recommend the Hotel El Tambo Uno as a good 2-3 star option that offers affordable prices. Just be aware of the door and...
