Unable to get a good night sleep the entire 6 days I stayed, due to the outdoor traffic (the hotel faces a heavily congested street during morning rush hours). Add to that the incessant rumbling of the room's antiquated AC, all kinds of noises that enter the room through the single pane flimsy glass windows, plus the thin walls which allow next door conversations to be part of one's own private room and more than likely one will stay up all night as I did. The curtains are so poorly designed they cannot block the hotel's own outdoor lights, or the reflections that bounced off from surrounding shiny surfaces. If you are in luck, at 3:00 am a bus with a running engine, will stop in front of the hotel to pick up guests that have stayed only one night, to take them to a tour in Ica. All these passengers are as chatty as magpies at dawn, oblivious to the disruption their incessant chat causes to those of us that are trying to fall asleep. This used to be a wonderful quiet neighborhood back in the 80's, but Lima has become no man's land, preyed by greedy real estate developers and authorities alike, the result being overconstruction and incessant traffic. Think Mumbai or Bangkok. The hotel is in dire need of a major renovation. Nothing has been updated since it was inagurated in the 1990's. Everything is oeprated manually, starting with the elevator all the way to the safe box, which won't close on its own unless one makes an extra turn with the knob. The bathtub is 1/3 of a normal size one, and I guess would be an infant's delight but not an adult. The breakfast (included), has portions that would barely satisfy a toddler. After two days of getting granola in a miniature recipient I decided to just walk out and found better and more filling choices on Miguel Dasso. Oh and there is an extra fee of about $10.00 USD which is unjustifiable as there are no amenities to speak of. I guess that fee covers that meagre breakfast so it is a win win for the...
Read moreI stayed at the Roosevelt six months ago and again last week. After booking directly with the hotel, I was given a good rate and an upgraded room, larger than the one I stayed in previously. The Roosevelt also provides an airport pick-up if you're staying three nights or more. The rooms are very clean and the bed is very comfortable. The air conditioner worked well and was quite necessary as Lima is having a hot summer. A full breakfast is included. It can be eggs, oatmeal or fruit, and it includes fresh juice and coffee. The French Toast is delicious and presented beautifully. The front desk employees are exceptional. I was usually greeted with a smile and by name when I passed the desk. They couldn't be more friendly and helpful. In fact all the employees that I encountered at the hotel and the restaurant were kind, friendly and service oriented. The hotel is in a pleasant neighborhood filled with cafes, restaurants, book stores and a supermarket. Everything you need is in walking distance. And it's a nice area to walk around and explore. Bottom line: If you're looking for fancy and luxury, stay at the Country Club and pay three times as much. But if you're looking for a well located, comfortable and very pleasant hotel, I highly recommend the Roosevelt....
Read moreThe Roosevelt is located in San Isidro, in a neighborhood filled with cafes, restaurants and bookstores. It’s a really good location. My single-person room was small. It was plainly decorated but very clean. The bed was very comfortable. I didn’t want the heavy quilt on it, but there was a wrapped single blanket in the closet that served my needs. There was adequate storage space in the closet. The bathroom had plenty of counter space. The shower was a somewhat small stall, but the hot water was ample, and the temperature was well maintained. Breakfast was included at the attached restaurant. (pet-friendly by the way) Breakfast choices included eggs, oatmeal, fruit, or delicious French toast. The staff at this hotel is very service oriented. They are competent, friendly, and helpful with any question. Two minor issues in my room were taken care of almost immediately. I had some trouble making the reservation on their website, but found it easy to reserve by directly e-mailing the hotel. Because I stayed more than 3 nights, airport pickup was included (but not the return). ||This is by no means a luxury hotel. But if you’re looking for a comfortable room that is very clean, with a helpful and friendly staff, at a reasonable price, in a great location, this...
