this was my first hostel stay ever. i learned i am not a hostel candidate. there was no toilet paper or towels. it was full of mold (much of this town is because it is in the clouds-moist). when i woke up there was water on the bathroom floor, we hadn't used the bathroom at all during the night. it was very noisy. someone knocked on the door and window in the middle of the night. i couldn't sleep at all which was horrible the night before Machu Picchu. if i could go back i would have splurged and spent as much as needed on a hotel for a good night's sleep that evening. ||||aguas calientes as a town was nothing but a tourist trap. all restaurants and bars that are not authentic and are a rip off. i loved all of peru and all of peru's food minus aguas calientes! i recommend as little time as possible in that town.||||if you are used to hostels and want a cheap one, this one is fine...maybe this is normally what hostels are supposed to be like. the workers were nice enough. they hold bags for the day while you are at Machu Picchu. bring your own towel and toilet paper. it cost about $17USD for one room for two people (had private...

I tried to take a shower and the water was hot for the first five minutes, then it became cold. I thought I had to wait for awhile to get hot water again but around ten minutes later I realised one of the employee had turned off the heating system. I asked him to turn it on and he was rude with me, saying that I was in the shower for a long time. After discussing a lot with the staff I could finally take the shower in peace. The room I stayed was also dirty and stink. I definitely wouldn't recommend Hostal Joe...

Mold everywhere--walls, comforter, etc. Had to ask for towels, then soap, then toilet paper...then ask about hot water--it had to be turned on. The worst part was that the employees were sitting on the floor outside of our room listening to music and hanging out until 12 a.m. And then at 3 am they were screaming at eachother and slamming doors. Worst hotel we've stayed in from Colombia to Peru. There are a lot of hotel options in Aguas Calientes and we regret not getting to town early enough to look around more...
