Iguana Hostel Puno — Hotel in Puno

Honestly I came in ready to write a bad review a few days ago. I had a change of plans, planned to cancel my reservation and could not, for the life of me, reach them. I tried calling, Whatsapp, email, nothing. In the end in the process of improvising some plans I passed by on the morning after my originally booked night to at least use the facilities, take a shower and eat breakfast. I was won over by the awesome staff, quite decent breakfast and overall decent experience. I ended up booking a kayak tour with the owner which turned out awesome and led to an amazing day, followed by me extending my stay until the next day. I won't pretend like this place doesn't have some flaws but honestly it's super minor things overall. The essentials are solid and the experience was great. We're 1 and a half months into our trip through South America and this is by far the best hostel we've stayed in so far.

The staff were incredibly helpful and consistently went above and beyond with their help. We had a few issues due to illness and needed some assistance and flexibility. The staff took care of tour organisation, tour refunding when we couldn't make it, extending our booking when required, rearranging buses, and ordering taxis for us, all with a friendly smile too!

The hostel itself is clean, comfortable and even has a basic gym on the top floor (best workout I've had since leaving the UK!). The location is also fantastic, just a few minutes walk from the main square, cathedral and pedestrianised streets full of nice bars and...

I booked through hostel world, where it said that reception is 24 hours. But after midnight they locked the door and didn't let me leave. After calling the doorbell several times, they gave me the option that if I left I could only come back after 4 am. They also gave me the option of looking for another place in a dangerous place in the early hours of the morning. After that I was indignant in the living room using my cell phone and they asked me to leave the living room too. This is a report without opinions, just facts. In Brazil this would be a crime.
