Upon arrival to Hotel Vargas Inn my travel partner and i were greeted by 4 kids, I say kids because they couldn't have been over 16. There were no adults to be found in the place. When we walked into our room it smelled of mildew, had no heat or AC and the light flickered off and on. I decided to give the place a try and take a shower. The website advertised hot water 24 hours a day but this is a lie. The water was so cold that my teeth started chattering. Not to mention that there was no floor towel so the whole bathroom floor was soaked since the shower didn't drain properly. The only decent thing about this place is its location to the main square but if you want to sleep then don't stay here. I could deal with it being on one of the busiest streets but what I couldn't deal with was the yelling at 2 am or the people banging on room doors at 4 or the random guy who banged on my door at 5 am only to say sorry and walk away. There were also about 20 teenagers standing on our floor around 7 am. So once again I say if you want to sleep don't stay here!!! According to the website there is Internet and breakfast. The wireless works sporadically for about 20 minutes at a time, but if you really need Internet there is an ancient computer you can rent for 15 minutes at a time. As far as breakfast goes it is non-existent. Having bread on a plate, a thermos of hot water and tea bags does not constitute a meal. Overall this was a horrible place to stay. The pictures on the website are a lie because the place looked nothing like those pictures. Yes, the place was cheap but I worried about my bags being stolen the whole time I was out of the room. Avoid the stress and stay...
Read moreI went Puno this May, and I met introducer of this hotel in the border between Bolivia and Peru.He introduced me this hotel and took me there by taxi to show me the room.||He seems to be a ranger or boss in this hotel.||He told me the price he offered to me including breakfast and the taxi fee between bus station and hotel if I would like to stay the hotel.||Then I decided to stay here for one night finally.||Then he began to sell me the tour about floating isle and bus ticket so urgently in the lounge. I said I would think about it, but he keep pushing me to give an answer at once. Finally I said no. I can deal with it by myself and the price is much cheaper than he offered.||Then he changed his face, asked me to pay the taxi fee. I didn't pay because he said if I accept the room, I don't need to pay the shuttle fee. He said nothing no more about this.||I think that's alright, at least I can have breakfast. But the next morning, when I went downstairs to eat breakfast, one guy hold me back before me and asked me to pay 8 soles for breakfast. I'm so angry until now.||||I regret that I didn't leave at once when I know the boss is unhonest the first day.||So don't stay here. The boss can speak English...
Read moreTotally agree with sda2001 - it was our worst place to stay in the entire Peru trip we did for two weeks. Overall, Puno was a weird city, museums supposed to work, as per the touristic info, but not in fact, no electricity for more than 4-5 hours in the entire area, the hotel was located and touristic places (the hill with the eagle statue), that have been not recommended by the local tourist office because of the increased criminal activity in the area... So, the hotel itself was not so much worst than most of the places in Puno. Even the staff (that are really almost boys) were very helpful to us. They made all their possible to bring us bread for the breakfast, when all the electricity in the area was gone they prepared the breakfast on a gas kettle and we really appreciated it. But, the overall hotel bad impression, due to the owner negligence is a fact and they must improve a lot that hotel before advertise it in...
