My family and I had rented an Airbnb in Urubamba, we had been staying at another one in Cusco for a week. My wife suffered terrible soroche (altitude sickness) and was in bed virtually the entire time in Cusco. I had a little bout but shook it off and our 11 year old son who had been on meds his pediatrician prescribed so he did the best of all. On our last day as we were preparing to be picked up and taken to Urubamba by taxi our son's meds wore off and he began vomiting violently about every 15-20 minutes. Great way to start the winding hairpin turn journey to Urubamba. We arrived about a 90 minutes later. Our driver had been instructed to call the owner of the Airbnb when we arrived and he would meet us and walk us up the path to our cottage.. Sadly he didn't have a phone and neither my wife's or my phone were working. We waited 2 hours and our driver began to get nervous. We gave up and decided to get a hotel for the evening and I would attempt to contact our host when we had wifi. We drove around Urubamba and looked at multiple hotels and hostels until we came upon Hospedaje La Florida. There was this tiny little JR Tolken hobbit door covered by a gate and a doorbell to summon a staff member (note: I am 6'2" the bang on the head at my first entry stayed with me a week).||||We entered the delightfully appointed mini lobby with it's antique furniture and room keys hung on hooks behind the desk. We asked if a room was available and the lovely and warm front desk woman looked at us with our white as a ghost little boy and mountain of luggage assured us she could find us a room. She gave us multiple choices and offered to move a single bed into the honeymoon suite for us, however that was on the second floor and the thought of dragging our bags up the stairs was too much after such a trying day. We opted to push 2 single beds together in room number 3. The room was spacious with nice art a table and chair, full bathroom with a tub and hot water (first real hot water in 6 weeks). We crashed hard and slept well even with the three of us sharing 2 singles. In the morning we were awoken by the neighborhood rooster and a slice of sun coming through the curtains. We walked out in to the lush and well manicured courtyard and made our way to the dining room for an excellent continental breakfast. As far as I can tell the hotel has three staff all of which are beyond accommodating. The price was 140 Soles or about $50 US. We went again a week later as I had some business in the states and needed a strong wifi connection for some video calls. This time we stayed in room 6 easily as nice but on the 2nd floor and far noisier.||||We love this place and the...
Read moreWe had initially booked to stay in Urubamba and Hospedaje de La Florida for 2 nights but decided to extend our stay to 3 nights. The owner, Yhurema, was absolutely charming and very caring. ||The room was huge even though there were just my wife and I. Yhurema had reserved a large triple room upon our request for a quiet area of the hotel. Yhurema's breakfasts were absolutely delicious. She offered us a choice of juice which she prepared with fresh fruit every morning. There was always fresh bread, cheese, jam, tea or coffee and eggs prepared to our liking.||The showers were very hot, the beds very comfortable and Wifi was excellent in the room.||Yhurema was very helpful with information about local restaurants and places to see. She and my wife hit it off, as both enjoy gardening, birds ( she has hummingbirds regularly visiting) and natural medicines. It was obvious that Yhurema's gardens and plants are a passion and she thoroughly enjoyed sharing her interest/knowledge with us. She offered my wife natural aloe when she noticed that my wife had a slight burn after a long day of touring. She helped us negotiate a better taxi rate to tour the various sites in Sacred Valley. From Urubamba, we took in the ruins of Moray, the town of Moras, La Salineras salt mines and the ruins and market of Pisac. We were grateful to have chosen Hospedaje La Florida and meet our outstanding...
Read moreWe stayed in this guesthouse for 5 nights and everything was perfect. It is on a very quiet street just 5 mns walk from main plaza. The room was super clean, very well maintained (like new) and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfy and hot showers too (not always a given in Peru). This guesthouse has a great interior garden where you can chill out in the sun. The breakfast was amazing, great bread, cheese, eggs made to order, fruit, fresh fruit juice, great coffee (very important for a coffee addict like me!). Yhurema, the host, was super nice and super helpful, we felt like we were friends by the end of our stay. I miss her! Her English is good too. Honestly, we are big travelers and stayed in many many mid-range guesthouses all over the world and it doesn't get better...
