Goofy Ants Hostel — Hotel in Puerto Princesa

Goofy Ants Hostel in Puerto Princesa is a prime example of getting excellent value for your money. For budget travelers exploring Palawan,(Like me) this hostel hits all the right notes, proving that cheap doesn't have to mean compromising on comfort or convenience.

Firstly, the location is fantastic. It's incredibly close to Puerto Princesa International Airport, which is a huge plus after a long journey, and still within easy walking distance or a short tricycle ride to the main downtown area, where you'll find restaurants, bars, ATMs, and tour operators. This saves you both time and money on transportation.

Secondly, for the affordable price, you get surprisingly well-maintained and clean facilities. Me personally praised the cleanliness of the dorms and shared bathrooms. The beds are comfortable, and crucially for the Philippine climate, the AC is very effective a little bit cold for me HAHA. Many beds also feature privacy curtains, individual lights, and power points (including USB ports), which are welcome amenities for any hostel guest. Beyond the basics, Goofy Ants offers a welcoming and social atmosphere. There's a communal area where you can relax, play games, or even enjoy movie nights with a projector. They also have a garden area with swings and a communal table, perfect for unwinding and meeting other travelers. The staff and owner are one of the Highlights here, The friendliness, helpfulness, and willingness to provide recommendations and assist with travel arrangements. Shout out to Ms Fate( Owner) . Christian and Anne ( Staffs) for assisting me throughout my stay.

While it might be a relatively new establishment, meaning it's still building up some of the "hostel vibe" with maps and extensive tour information on display, its core offerings of clean, comfortable, and well-located accommodation at a very competitive price make Goofy Ants Hostel an undeniable winner for anyone on a budget in Puerto Princesa. You'll leave feeling like you got a genuinely good deal for your adventures in Palawan.

I'm gonna start with the positives, staff and location.

And now to explain why I'm only giving it 3 stars.

No hot water in the showers.

Wifi is very very weak in the room.

Checkout is at 11.

Some of the lockers are missing the keys and you can not use your own lock so you can't secure your valuables if you are unlucky and get one of the beds that are missing the key.

They have a thick plastic around the mattress to protect it and cheap bed linens, for me that toss and turner a lot that means noise from plastic and that the bed linen comes off during the night and I'm essentially sleeping on plastic.

My heavy phone charger kept falling put of the socket so I had to put loads of stuff under it to keep it charging, the socket is basically where your head is at so had trouble charging my phone.

And probably the biggest reason for 3 stars is that even though there aren't any guests and my bed is ready, I had to sit in 30+ degrees of heat for 2 hours to get access to the room because of their policies, which is stupid! first policy should be to accommodate your customers.

This policy of waiting until 2pm for checkin even though the bed and room are clean, is inline with the plastic around the mattress, not considering the comfort of the guest. very obvious the owner dosen't have experience from the hospitality industry.

Can't understand 5 star reviews, the owner needs really feedback so he can deliver a good hospitality experience for the guests.

A wonderful hostel in Puerto Princesa! 🌴 Perfect location, clean, peaceful, and definitely worth the price. The owner is super friendly (Hi Ms. Faith, hope I got your name right! Sorry, I’m terrible with names 😅), very knowledgeable, and always eager to share great insights about Puerto Princesa. Plus, they have the cutest little dogs that make the place feel even more like home. Don’t miss their Adobo—it’s a must-try! 🍛
