Ericeira Surf Camp — Hotel in Mafra

I stayed here for around 7 days back in September 2022 as a first-time solo traveler. Decided to write a review since it always stuck with me for a long time.

I didn't have a good experience staying here. First of all, there was a complete lack of communication regarding my booking confirmation. I had to confirm it with my credit card and the reservation kept expiring. I sent two emails and never got a reply, only on the last day I decided to call them and they said I didn't need to worry and everything was set.

Next, on arrival, I was asked to pay a late check-in fee of around 25 euros (iirc), since I arrived at around 11-12pm, which was unexpected. If I knew there would be an extra fee it would be better for me to take an earlier flight, or plan accordingly.

This would all have been fine if my stay was great, however, as some others had pointed out. The volunteers were very nice people, but they weren't very accommodating and felt like a separate group of friends. I had a hard time meeting people because the common rooms were empty most of the time.

My room was next to a very busy road. On the weekends it was super loud, but it was too warm to close the windows. The location of the house was great though, very central. The rooms were spacious and clean, although a bit aged. So aside from that they were fine. Maybe I can't complain too much about the facilities since the price wasn't very expensive.

I did around 8 beginner surf lessons, mostly from Catarina who was such a great and positive instructor. As a beginner, I quickly gained confidence in surfing and really enjoyed it.

At the last lesson, I tried the intermediate one and had a bad experience with a different instructor. He gave me zero instructions on how to transition as a beginner or push through a wave. He even occasionally went for a wave himself. Since the waves were quite strong on that day I could barely swim back. Felt quite dangerous at times too. Maybe it was too early for me to try an intermediate lesson, but I would expect the instructors to give me some advice on that.

Finally, I did enjoy my surf holiday in Ericeira a lot, but it was sadly not thanks to this place. I can therefore not recommend staying here unless you're on a tight budget. I hope these issues can be solved...

I attended this surf school a few months ago, and I can highly recommend it. From the moment I arrived, the staff were very welcoming and professional, taking the time to clearly explain all details and procedures. The accommodation was spotless and thoughtfully designed, creating a cozy and homely atmosphere. I especially loved the comfortable lounge area and the relaxed terrace that was perfect for unwinding after surf sessions.

The location was ideal — the beach was only a short walk away. Breakfast was good, with a good variety of options and enough to keep you full for the morning. The group sizes varied from day to day, but the instructors always managed to give everyone personal attention and support.

The surf course itself was extremely well organized — from registration to equipment handover, everything ran smoothly. The surfboards and gear available for both lessons and private rental were of excellent quality and well maintained. Unlike many other surf camps, the instructors here have over 15 years of experience, and they provided detailed feedback every day, helping each participant to make visible progress.

Booking was completely hassle-free and offered at very competitive prices. I particularly appreciated the flexibility to arrive during the week, which made planning my trip much easier.

A special mention goes to the owner, who, despite a busy schedule, always made time to engage personally with guests and make everyone feel welcome. Overall, it was a fantastic, well-rounded experience — great people, excellent organization, and an...

Ich kann das Surfcamp jeder Person herzlichst weiterempfehlen! Ich habe drei Wochen in der Unterkunft verbracht und hatte fast täglich Surfunterricht. Das Camp liegt sehr zentral im Städtchen und alle Restaurants und das Meer sind somit in Gehdistanz erreichbar. Die Unterkunft ist zu jeder Zeit sauber und ordentlich, die Zimmer werden regelmässig geputzt und Hand- Badtücher und Bettwäsche ausgewechselt. Falls es irgendwelche Probleme mit dem Zimmer gibt oder man etwas Neues braucht, eilt Fernanda gleich zur Stelle und unterstützt. Die Wäsche wird gewaschen bei Bedarf. Bei allgemeinen Belangen oder Fragen hilft Isabelle wo sie kann und macht Termine für einen aus und nimmt sich auch gerne mal für ein Schwätzchen Zeit. Der Surfunterricht bei Luis ist sehr abwechslungsreich. Er beobachtet die Teilnehmenden und gibt ausreichende Tipps, sodass man sich nicht gleich total überfordert fühlt. Er schätzt das Können sehr gut ein und gleicht mit seiner Gelassenheit und seinen Inputs die Surflektionen gekonnt aus. Je nachdem wie der Wellengang war, haben wir unterschiedliche Strände besucht. ||Im Allgemeinen habe ich das ganze Personal als Herzensmenschen kennengelernt. Ich würde jederzeit wieder im Surfcamp Ericeira meine Unterkunft und meine Surflektionen buchen und möchte mich an dieser Stelle für die tolle Zeit bedanken!||||------------—----||||I can heartily recommend the surf camp to anyone! I spent three weeks in the accommodation and had almost daily surf lessons. The camp is very centrally located in the town and all restaurants and the sea are therefore within walking distance. The accommodation is clean and tidy at all times, the rooms are cleaned regularly and towels and bed linen are changed. If there are any problems with the room or you need something new, Fernanda rushes right to the spot and assists. Laundry is done when needed. In general Isabelle helps where she can and makes appointments for you and also takes time for a chat. The surf lessons with Luis are very varied. He observes the participants and gives sufficient tips, so that you don't feel totally overwhelmed right away. He estimates the ability very well and balances the surf lessons skillfully with his composure and his inputs. Depending on how the swell was, we visited different beaches. ||In general, I have come to know the entire staff as people of the heart. Le camp est très bien situé dans la ville et tous les restaurants et la mer sont donc accessibles à pied. L'hébergement est propre et bien rangé à tout moment, les chambres sont nettoyées régulièrement et les serviettes et les draps sont changés. S'il y a un problème avec la chambre ou s'on a besoin de quelque chose de nouveau, Fernanda se précipite sur place et on aide. La lessive est faite au besoin. Isabelle on aide à répondre aux questions d'ordre général, prend des rendez-vous si néscessaire et prend le temps de discuter. Les leçons de surf avec Luis sont très variées. Il observe les participants et donne suffisamment de conseils pour que vous ne vous sentiez pas tout de suite totalement dépassé. Il évalue très bien les capacités et équilibre habilement les leçons de surf avec sa nature calme et ses apports. En fonction de la movement de la mer, nous avons visité différentes plages. ||En général, j'ai trouvé que tout le personnel était des gens de cœur.
