Spent 6 nights here on a surf / work trip. Best surf lodge in the area! Can’t say enough about how good the service was too - warm, proactive and super welcoming. The staff not only helped me feel at home, they also helped with some restaurant bookings in Porto for me. Thanks guys! The food is also amazing, especially on my last night when the chef made something extra tasty for me. The rooms are modern, very clean, cosy, nicely styled with a surf lodge vibe. Loads of vintage photos of classic surf moments hang on the walls. The dining area is also super cool and stylish with a log fire for the colder months. They also have skateboards and bikes you can borrow as well, with space downstairs to hang a wetsuit and store surfboards if needed. It’s only a short 10 min stroll into Baleal town and beaches, so not directly next to the surf but it means it’s a bit more chilled as well. It’s a nice walk anyway and there’s places to check out on the way. All up an amazing place to stay, would definitely stay here again if I come back...
Read moreThis is a dream place. First of all, the location is optimal: it is next to numerous surf spots, and a short drive from Lisbon airport. The rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. The "living room" next to the restaurant is an ideal place to relax or get some work done. And the meals are delicious.
The terrace is a perfect setting to enjoy sunsets and socialise. They often have DJs or live music, and next to it, you will find the jacuzzi--which is a pleasure after a long, cold water session, or just a day exploring the surroundings.
And did I mention the owner? John is one of the most relaxed, yet contagiously energetic, and super friendly-helpful-person you will ever meet. And I mean it. Best vibes.
I cannot recommend this place more. I have been there several times and I long to get back. Always...
Read moreFirstly, never hire a surfboard from here. 10 euros everywhere else in town and a whopping 40 euros for 2hrs here.... scandalous and insulting. Literally everywhere charges 10 euros, so I didn't clarify the price (just like I don't clarify the price of beer at every bar). But after renting at the beach spots, thought I'd rent from the hotel for a change...big mistake and really felt taken advantage of.|Now with the good & bad:|Good: Clean & modern rooms, attentive staff and good breakfast. Close to great sushi and mexican restaurants.|Bad: small rooms and even smaller bathroom, excessive rental prices and not exactly a 'surfers lodge'; more suited for a couples hotel. Also at reception, not much of a welcome and no local info provided.|Mixed feelings about this place; honestly...
