This hotel is a great example of why initial impressions matter. We arrived on an early flight and went straight to the hotel. We knew it would be too early for the 3 PM check-in but we wanted to drop off our luggage before exploring around town. No problem there as the front desk was happy to store it for us.||We walked into town (about 10-15 min walk), had lunch, and explored. Then it started pouring rain. With only one umbrella against a windy, heavy rain, we were soaked pretty quickly while walking back to the hotel. We arrived a little before 2:30 PM and went to the front desk and asked if the room was available. The woman gave us a small smile and said no, check-in is at 3PM, please wait. We were a bit incredulous, and walked over to the seating area in the lobby, where I realized two other soggy parties were waiting for check-in. So we sat there dripping for a little over half an hour. They made all of us literally wait until exactly 3 PM to check us in!! At 3 PM suddenly the rooms were available so it's clear that the rooms were ready for quite a while, but they simply refused to let us check in any amount of time earlier. This lack of empathy is astounding.||We were given a first floor room, so it overlooked a dumpster that people searched through, so there was no view others mentioned. The room was clean and location to town, while a little further from other hotels, was okay. The breakfast was also fine. But despite this, we would not recommend this hotel or stay here again on our next visit due to the check-in experience. They may have gotten 30 minutes from us, but nothing more...

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in early September. The room was clean and AC worked well. The bed and pillows were quite firm, but the rest of the room was fine.

The breakfast buffet was very good, however it was always the same everyday.

The pool and spa facilities were also very good and clean.

The hotel is well located within Ponta Delgada, and there is street parking in front of the hotel.

My only negative for the hotel, and which gave me a negative first impression, was our check-in experience. Our flight arrived early and we were transfered to the hotel around 8:30am. While we were not expecting to be checked in at that time, they did store our bags and told us to check in at 3pm. We returned to the hotel around 2:15pm and were told our room was ready, however if we wanted to check-in early we would have to pay 7 Euro. I understand charging for early check-in when the room has to be prepared beforehand, however this seemed like price gouging to me. Several other couples (at least 4), also had the same issue. We all ended up sitting in the waiting area until 3pm. We could have paid the 7 Euro, however we did not feel the hotel was being reasonable given the room was already ready. In addition to this, anything deemed an "extra" (including things like pool towels) are a pricey extra. We have traveled extensively, and this was the first time we had such a blatant...

I didn't like a lot of things. Basically everything in this hotel is broken, half-broken or under maintenance. The day of arrival the Jacuzzi was "under maintenance". The day after one of the elevators was under maintenance too. Our room was terrible: every day after 3 p.m. from the bathroom there was a terrible smell of feces coming out from the drain pipe and it was disgusting. Our bathroom didn't have the bidet. The sliding doors to access the small sad terrace were half broken and every time we wanted to access outside we had to use the same force of the incredible Hulk to manage opening and closing operation. Our door to access the room instead broke the second day of our stay and we have to ask TWICE to fix it. The gym was simply a joke as there were just two rusty stationary bicycles. The cherry on top that I've found outrageous was our third day, I was wakened up at 7 a.m. by a phone call from a lady receptionist babbling something about my car in a terrible terrible English. I went downstairs asking clarification and guess what? "Oh, it was a mistake". NO SORRY, NO APOLOGY, JUST IT WAS A MISTAKE. Terrible experience. Great staff mixed with terrible staff the decides it's a good idea calling people in the morning by mistake.

Terrible experience. Go there if you like receiving phone calls really early in...

Hotel was ideal for my overnight layover at PDL. Positives include: very clean, pool & jacuzzi available, a free welcome drink in the bar lounge, excellent water pressure and temperature, large bathroom counter, hairdryer, balcony, staff willing to hold some souvenir cheese items in their cooler overnight, bagged breakfast to go in the morning (although I would have loved to have had their breakfast in the hotel, it smelled amazing in there as they were setting up), and an excellent restaurant next door to have dinner up until 11pm (I highly recommend Restaurant O Baco. Delicious food, friendly and efficient staff!) A few negatives: hotel is located in the flight path of the airport so it could be loud if you were trying to nap during the day or sleep-in in the morning, I did not hear any planes during the nighttime hours. Otherwise, this hotel was quiet. The only other negative is the beds were terrible. Although the bedding smelled very fresh and clean, it was like sleeping on a dorm room mattress with zero padding. But for one night and not a fancy price, I was happy with the accommodations overall.

Hotel Ponta Delgada Review Pros: The air conditioning was okay and the water pressure was great. Pro Tip: If you have an early morning flight before breakfast opens, you can ask for a "to-go" breakfast and they will provide it. Cons: It's a bit worse than its sister hotel (Hotel Antillia). You can hear airport noise, which can be disruptive. The breakfast was alright. The hotel is a bit far from the downtown area, but close to the airport. Room for Improvement: Address noise insulation to minimize airport disturbance. Improve the quality/variety of breakfast offerings.
