The location requires a rental car and if you intend to wine taste or have a bottle of wine at dinner, a private driver is highly recommended given narrow mountain roads and rural location. There are no taxi or rideshare options. The view is stunning and is the best feature of the home. The pool is not heated and quite cold even in middle of summer, so is unusable. We had multiple problems with the home including: water heater breaking and flooding the kitchen, power going out when using cooktop, microwave and AC at same time (although it came back on quickly), front door lock being too difficult to use so side door had to be left open most times in order to get into home, huge spiders in the bedroom and kitchen, etc. If it were not for a private driver (whom the owner of the home recommended) we could not have stayed in the home as while it is a home with a gorgeous view it’s remote. We felt the price to value ratio of the home was very poor. There are multiple rentals in Duoro that and this property is new to VRBO. It needs upgrading before the nearly $500 a night fee is justifiable. We requested partial refund from the owner given our many issues with the home and were...
Read moreAlvim's Douro Villa is absolutely Incredible in every way! This villa was all that was advertised and more! The views are breath taking from the house and infinity pool and our walks through the site's vineyards were very memorable. The house is modern and comfortable in everyway and the kitchen is quite functional and makes for a great home for a longer stay as well. The villa was sparkling clean and the beds and bathrooms are pristine and comfortable as well. The villa is set in the heart of the Douro Valley close to many small towns, villages and wineries. Eurico, who attends to the house and grounds gave us a detailed tour of the vineyards and we did a port tasting of the villa's own homemade port which was delicious. Eurico was very helpful in pointing our local places to go and where to shop for everything we needed. Do not look any further if you seek a home villa stay...
Read moreAlvim's Douro is a fabulous villa in the Douro Valley in Portugal, 90 minutes from Porto. The villa is designer-modern, beautifully decorated and furnished, and has some of the most amazing views I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot!). There's loads of open-plan space downstairs. Each of the three bedrooms are spacious and have their own bathroom. The pool is lovely and there's a whole separate area/building just for BBQs - easily the best equipped I have seen with BBQ, pizza oven, fridge, cooker, sink etc. As well as just enjoying the villa, we went wine tasting, rented e-bikes to enjoy the stunning scenery, took a boat trip, went kayaking etc. We also had lots of great meals at local restaurants. I booked directly via Feel Discovery, making a good saving versus the usual hotel booking sites, and everything went 100% smoothly, with excellent...
