It's disappointing that a restaurant like Negra Café doesn't allow digital nomads or remote workers to work while enjoying their meal. While it may not be profitable to have customers who only order a coffee or two while staying for hours, it's important to note that digital nomads often order more food and drinks the longer they stay. Additionally, implementing a minimum spend policy could help mitigate any financial losses for the restaurant.
During my first visit, I ordered a substantial brunch and an orange juice before taking out my laptop to work. However, a waitress immediately approached my table and informed me that working was not allowed. I was taken aback, given that I had just spent approximately €20 on my meal. The waitress then allowed me to move to the downstairs area to work.
On my second visit, I asked ahead of time if I could have lunch and do some work afterwards. The waitress, who may have been the manager, responded in a very assertive manner that it would depend on the flow of customers later in the day. I explained that it didn't make sense for me to have lunch there if I would just be kicked out afterwards, but she didn't seem to care.
As a paying customer, I don't understand why I was treated this way. Am I not just as important as anyone who visits the restaurant for a quick drink and leaves? It's a shame that Negra Café doesn't value the patronage of digital nomads and remote workers, who could potentially become loyal customers with the right...
Read moreToday we got kicked out of the cafe at the entrance because we had laptops with us. We wanted to get a couple of coffees, work until lunchtime and then get salads and desserts. We've been coming to this place for two weeks in a row every day to work, have coffee and eat. Yes, we do stay there for three hours, but if you look at our bill, you'll see one coffee after another, topped up with teas and toasts. Sometimes as well salads (which are very good btw) and desserts. In previous weeks we also could be in the zone with couches, which was very comfortable and warm. However, starting this Wednesday, apparently, it's prohibited to have electronics in that area. I guess the managing staff doesn't think of us as profitable clients, but we sure have spent at least 30 to 50 euros EVERY DAY there! Besides, the staff isn't the best at smiling and being genuinely friendly. It seems like they're hating on their lives bringing me my order. Once, we changed the table that just became free, and the waiter gave me a look, almost rolling his eyes because I guess he had to change the card of our table in the system :) Not everybody, though. The Lady that seems to be a manager of some sort is super sweet. We really appreciated her attitude, especially in comparison with the other waiters. Thank you so much for being the place for our productive work for a couple of weeks. Now we're not coming back, and the place has lost a couple of very...
Read moreI found the food here to be poor for the price, the ambience quite nice, and the service curt and sorely lacking.
I tried to swap out the nutella on my pancakes for maple syrup - which shouldn’t be an issue because the two items are listed as of equivalent value under the extras section - I was told by the waitress that that would not be possible, and I’d have to buy the maple syrup at full cost if I wanted it. When I tried to ask why a swap wasn’t possible, I was met with an impatient “that’s just how the kitchen works here”, which was disappointing. How hard can it be to swap a sauce? Even McDonald’s can customise your order. I went for the original, which came drenched in way too much nutella for any balance. The coffee was also mediocre.
It’s unfortunate that they’re serving basic cafe food at upscale cafe prices, but without the standards of service expected of a cafe. I definitely will...
