I don't know anything about the requirements to get stars... But for a hotel with seals of recommendation from trip advisor I must say I expected more. I'm actually very disappointed. The first room I staid wasn't to bad other than the fact it somehow didn't have lights so you had to use a standing lamp. Then one day they just suddly storm in and demand we change room imidiatly, in like, right away. We were doing stuff... and... sighs. That's just rude. Our afternoon plans were ruined and we had to interrupt what we were doing to rush to change rooms because they wanted us to while being looked at most of the time. The new room was smaller. The bed was smaller me and my partner had a hard time not kicking each other out. The bathroom had a weird discusting hole on the ground that had a lid but kept coming out. There were some tiny little flying bugs we could not get rid of and were annoying.
I read other reviews and they said their breakfast was good. But they CURRENTLY DO NOT SERVE ANY BREAKFAST. I asked. They replied "no breakfast". I read the reviews again and wondered, perhaps they don't have breakfast right now. They seem to have a hard time communicating so I asked at almost every hour of the morning. They don't serve breakfast any longer. You got to go to get it outside.
Do check the date of the reviews when you read them. I see very great ones but they seem to be somewhat outdated. This place is, in my opinion, in serious need of fixing and until its fixed i cant recomend this to anyone. I seriously don't belive there isn't a better hotel in the area than this. And if there really isn't. Maybe it's best to change travel destinations that has transportation so you can still enjoy the sights and enjoy your...
Read moreWe stayed at Residencia Lis B&B at the end of December 2019 for three nights. Our first impression was not very good. We arrived at about 2 PM and rang the bell but no one answered. So, we waited outside on a bench for about 15-20 minutes ringing the bell ocassionally. Finally, a harried maid came running to the door and tried to explain but she could not speak any English. She took us to our room with twin beds. We tried to explain that we requested a double bed. She tried to call and explain but we gave up and said OK.||Next day we met the owner who speaks very good English and is a very nice host. He apologized for our inconvenience. He gave us a gift of very nice Porto 12-year old wine bottle. I am giving it a 4-star only because of our initial encounter and the fact that it is an uphill walk back from city center. We walked easily in the morning but took a taxi back.||Pros: Clean, cheap place with some eating places nearby, quiet.||Cons: About 10-15 min walk to city center uphill, very basic breakfast.||I would still like to recommend this place if you would like a quiet night sleep...
Read moreWhen we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by a very friendly fellow with a great singing voice. He serenaded us with three Rutter classics before giving as a fantastically detailed guide to the city and the sights which enabled us to make the most of our 2 day visit to Porto. |The rooms were basic but clean and quiet. We missed a kettle in the room to make tea but that was only a minor thing. |The location is about 20 minutes walk to the start of the Porto old town / city centre. About 30 minutes all the way down to the river. It is down hill on the way but quite steep on the way back if walking. |The hotel is well served by public transport with bus stops right outside (€2 per trip) and metro lines about 10 mins walk away (€1.20 per trip). We also found Uber to be very cheap in the city (€4-6 from the old town back to the hotel). |There are restaurants, bakeries and bars close by for convenience, but you will probably want to spend most of your time in...
