This place is THE cheese spot in Porto. I've been here several times now and the service is always impeccable. They're a friendly bunch and they'll happily let you try all the cheeses you want or recommend cheeses depending on your taste or interests. There's not many shops that I spend between 15-45 minutes in chatting and getting served. This is one.
I've had an amazing assortment of Portuguese, Spanish, French and English cheeses. Unfailingly as soon as the cheese hits your tastebuds, you know that the selection is lovingly curated with only the best of the best making the shop. The creaminess, depth and breadth of flavours I've experienced is hard to put into words.
You're definitely going to pay a bit more here, but isn't that always the way with all things quality? I mean these cheeses are genuinely world class. I guess the average price is around €4.50 per 100g, but I would simply advise you to eat less but better!
There are an assortment of wines, jams, oils and biscuits/crackers to be had but not any great range of "add ons". I would really like to see them develop that side of the shop and to bring their discerning tastes maybe to charcuterie, canned/jarred goods and the wine section could do with expanding. I mean wine AND cheese - the perfect pairing, more of that please.
You can also sit in and have a drink and some cheese which I haven't done yet, but that's a nice...
Read moreSuch a wonderful experience! We booked a table a day in advance. I was told they will shut down for 2 weeks so they did not have as many varieties as they usually do. However, it turned out they still had quite a few and they were all artisanal cheeses. The owner explained every single cheese in great detail. Then they made us taste a few (I rated them as we went along to remember which ones we liked) and we asked for our top 4. The cheese board had some walnuts, dried apricots and figs as well as some marmalade with ginger to cleanse the palate in between cheeses. There was a small basket of bread and crackers. They also gave us some pepper jam to die for, and told us to pair it with one of the cheeses we've selected and not surprisingly, they tasted amazing together. Both the owner and the lady at the counter were lovely people, we had a very entertaining conversation. The wine was really smooth, it paired well with the cheeses we've chosen. There is a small fee for the cheese board service. They will be closed until mid-August 2022 but we'll definitely be back once they open. Highly...
Read moreI definitely wasn't expecting to some day visit a place like this and I sure was not at all expecting to love it being a person who is not into cheeses and know so little about it. For 3 types of cheeses, 100g each, we paid 18€ and it's was just enough for 3 people to enjoy all three cheeses and get pretty full after. They serve them with crackers, sourdough bread and homemade jam, all of those chosen according to the types of cheese you choose. The taste is everything. And for a better experience the stuff helps you choose the right combination of cheeses and drinks based on your taste preferences. It's definitely a must place to visit if you wish to have an experience where you can completely focus on the fullness of each unique...
