Of course, when you are in Porto, you just have to taste also the famous francesinha! This place was the closest to our apartment, so we went in blindly, at 10PM, to try to get some. This place is everything you imagine if you say "Portuguese taverna" - football on the TV, loud chatting, chaos, food and plenty of people everywhere, even this late in the evening. But the main point is, it was welcoming and chill - with really great francesinha! It's not possible to eat in one sitting, at least for me - it's insane amount of calories, but it's so good! 15EUR is probably a bit too much, but considering how much stuff is in it (with medium rare steak!) and that you will probably have it just few times in a lifetime - it was worth it. If you look for good authentic place to taste this lil bad boy, Miranda's should be definitely...
I went to Mirandas Kaffe with two friends for dinner, and we ended up leaving without even sitting down. We arrived around 9 PM and saw a queue. I asked the people in front, and they said they were waiting to speak with the manager to try and get a table. We waited… and waited… while more than half the tables inside were visibly empty. Only two staff members were working, making it nearly impossible to understand what was going on.
After standing for 50 minutes, we watched several people skip ahead — a regular customer walked in and was immediately served take-away, and a man with a reservation was given priority (despite them having already given his reserved table to another group). When I finally complained about the long wait and suggested we at least be allowed to sit while waiting, the owner very rudely replied, “If you don’t want to wait, you can leave.”
So that’s exactly what we did. If you’re looking for a relaxing dinner out, this is not the place. Extremely...
Read moreThis is a very traditional joint where locals come to have a bite, taking advantage of the place being open until late at night. That means there's nothing fancy about it. I had visited the place multiple times, always having the Prego em pão and french fries. The quality of the meat is outstanding and really well cooked so it kind of melts in your mouth. They use the same meat in the Francesinha but I didn't had the chance to taste it so far. Prices are fair and the service is fast. On some occasions the place was very noisy. Another negative point is the fact you cannot pay by card (that's really...
