Read morePlease don’t get me wrong but we expected a higher level of customer service than what we have experienced so far. This is our first night, we’re here for three. I hope I did not make a complete mistake by picking The Plaza. Still hopeful; thanks to Alma, Front Desk, and Mr. Gamra, Duty Manager for trying to make things better. More to follow.
Mr. Ahmet Antepli, Thank you very much for your reply. I have also filled out a review using the The Plaza's official survey. Below is what I wrote. We were looking forward to our stay in The Plaza Hotel Doha but unfortunately, we were met by cold and unwelcoming reception, inattentive staff and flat-out unprofessional demeanor. First, the room was not ready when we arrived despite being assured early check in as AMEX Platinum card member. We were informed that it would take at least 45 minutes to have the cleaning done. 2)The door to our room was wide open when we arrived. We thought someone was there to welcome us, but no one was around. 3) As AMEX Platinum card members, we have been accustomed to the small gestures of warm welcome, such as a fruit tray, etc., and a welcome letter from the hotel mgt. Both were noticeably missing. 4) We requested extra bottles of water from the concierge manager and all he said was "you must pay". Not exactly the best way to talk to guests. And then he walked away. Glad I bought water from a convenience store that night because we did not get the extra water we requested. 5) The breakfast staff totally ignored us as we walked in, I had to wildly wave my hands to get their attention. I did notice that they readily greeted other guests of lighter-skin color as soon as they sat down. 6) After I complained about the lack of welcome gifts to our room, we received a tray of bruised fruits which turned moldy after a few days. It was explained to me that it was normal for fruits to turn bad after a few days in the room. 7) I was informed that we were not eligible for late check out because the hotel was fully booked; this despite our AMEX Platinum membership which again assured us of a late check out. Mr. Baris, Manager, sorted out item 7 and informed us that he gave training to his staff about AMEX Platinum card members’ benefits. I think he may have indeed discussed it with the wait staff as Imran and Asif paid extra attention to us during our last breakfast. The service was appreciated. Kudos to Manager- Mr. Baris as he sincerely tried to address...
Read moreThe hotel is lovely. However, this was the worst reception we have ever received at a hotel. If I had to rate this hotel based on our first 10 minutes there, I would give it a zero star rating.
We could understand going through the detectors upon arrival. However, what I couldn't understand was that our passports were taken from us, and the woman walked away from us and started talking to a colleague with our passports in her hand like there was an issue with them while it seemed like they were arguing about the passports, and then they were finally given to another man sitting at the desk in the room who seemed upset to have to deal with us.
After a few minutes of standing there and not being spoken to, the man asked me to sit down. He continued to intensely type into the computer. Finally after minutes of silence, he asked me to sign papers, and make the payment. I did. But then he told us that if we wanted to eat dinner downstairs, we must adhere to the "dress code" and come in "full dress." Looking at my mother, and then looking at myself who were both wearing long dresses with pants on underneath and dressed modestly and respectfully, I asked for further clarification since I figured we were already in what I expected to be "full dress" so it didn't make sense that he was highlighting the dress code. I asked what does he mean by full dress if what we were wearing wasn't enough, and he just repeated "full dress."
And that is where the bad experience stopped. Everyone else (and I mean everyone else) at this hotel has been wonderful. The people who work at the restaurants are exceptional. The people who work at the reception desk—but not in the room across from the elevators— are wonderful. Everything else has been stellar. The rooms are stellar. The bed linens are clean and fresh. Everything feels wonderful, very clean. Very professional.
They say first impressions are the most important, but if that were true this hotel would have not received any stars. But because the rest of the experience was so amazing I gave it 4. If I could I would give it 4.5 since I don't think it's fair to penalize for just those first people. But I also could not give it a 5 star rating because it was literally the worst reception I've ever had at a...
