Makarov Hostel — Hotel in Zamoskvorechye District

Literal theives. My biggest warning to any prospective guests is to avoid using a 3rd party booking site, and to avoid advanced payment as to this hostel it seems to hold no meaning.

I had a 3 day stay in march and upon check in was greeted initially by no one at the front desk, then 10 to 15 minutes later a friendly enough looking fellow. Though he didn't speak English we used Google translate and it seemed to work well enough. I handed over a printed copy of my reservation in hopes of simplifying check in. The reservation I had made was prepaid and for a 6 bunk dorm with windows facing the river (this cost slightly extra). The reservation also stipulated that a cash or credit deposit would be required.

He punches away at the computer for some time and states (via translate) the I need to pay ~1600 rubles, I assume this is the deposit and pay. I'm then shown the way to the room and this is where I should have suspected something was wrong. The room was an 8 bunk dorm facing the back alley.

Upon check out I discovered that I had been rebooked on the spot and charged for this room, the money taken at check in was the full room charge and that my prepaid booking had essentially been completely ignored. The person at the front desk (different from check in), when I brought this up did state that he'd email the owner about my being charged twice.

So far they have failed to contact me, or respond to my follow up emails.

In addition the WiFi at this hostel requires you to login via Facebook or Instagram and 'like' their page. This is annoying to say the least. However it functions...

The worst hostel in the World. If You think to go there just don't. ||Me and my girlfriend last weekend came to this hostel after paying for 3 nights. When we wanted to check in they said that they wont let us to stay because in their opinion we are illegal in Russia. We show them every needed document. They said that we dont't have the stamp of crossing border. We show them stamp which we get crossing the Belarus border because when you crossing the border between Belarus and Russia you dont get the Russia stamp (there is an agreement between Russia and Belarus). We have the tickets to European Games in Minsk which worked like visa to both countries (which all is described on the websites of embassies and minstries Russian and Belarusian). We expalin everything but they said "no". When we wanted our money back girl on the reception said that we gonna get the refund in one week (which was a lie because when we call booking next day they said that hostel told them that we didnt came and they didnt want do give us our money back). When we said that we dont't have any other money and we are 1000km far from home and whithout any place to sleep she said that maybe we should find something through couchsurfing... We went out of this hostel and we found other place. Booking give us the whole refund so everything ended good. ||This hostel is discusting, bad and horrible. They dont't threat people in the right way. I reccomend You to dont't going there...
