Novotel Dakar — Hotel in Dakar

I stayed at the Novotel Hotel for 4 nights in January to February 2025. The hotel is very stylish, clean, and comfortable. The ample lobby is very welcoming. My room had a large area for sitting, large screen TV with a few stations, including music videos of West African and international music, walk in shower, separate room for toilet.|Breakfast buffet is organized with fresh fruits, figs, apricots, prunes. various breads and what looks like home-made fruit jams. Millet, various fresh yogurts, several cereals, and smoked salmon. A few salads are also available. Hot foods include 4 – 6 items, varying from bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hard cooked eggs, a spicy tomato based veggie dish. The made-to-order station includes eggs fixed any way, and omelets with choice of 7 ingredients and 4 spices. |Fresh juices, bottled water, several coffee and tea options round out the breakfast. Open for lunch. Dinner fare include menu ordering options or a buffet with mains, salads, sides, and dessert. Service is impeccable.|The fitness room is open 24/7, and the entrance is next to the front desk, The elliptical machines and treadmills offer a beautiful sea view during the work out. Bring your own music.|The conference rooms were always busy.|The pool area includes three cabanas and pool towel service. Very refreshing and close to pool restaurant and bar.|Security is extensive and thorough. Housekeeping service is great and trustworthy. The small gift shop offers some handicrafts including fashion batik fans, perfumes, upscale clothing for women at boutique prices.|One day my key did not work and the replacement did not work. They determined that a tech was needed. He was at work on replacing the lock battery within 5 minutes.|Everyone here was extremely helpful, polite, professional. I cannot possibly name all the wonderful people and one name I can remember is ABABACAR.|Great people and service.|Sea front rooms offer a window to the sea when you are near the window and open it for a fresh breeze.|Seaview rooms offer a window to the sea. The hotel entrance and location was fine but the bedroom unfortunately unhygienic. The bed mattress is old and very dirty; the carpet is extremely dirty. Very shocking and disappointing for a Accor hotel Novotel. The cleaning lady threw in front of me all the pillows on the dirty carpet and she put them back on bed after arranging the bed. Moreover, the cleaning staff were not wearing any uniforms, thus no idea who knocks at your door or who walks on the floors. The air-conditioning was defect and despite my few requests to fix it, they never did anything. I had to show-up at the reception desk on the third (last) day before they made a note. An engineer finally came and fix it, this was few hours before I left. I sent an email the very first day I arrived and never got a reply. I asked for a refund for the coming (not yet consumed) nights which was denied. I asked to be transferred to another Accor hotel (Pullman or Sofitel) and I will pay the difference, which was again denied. They said I could leave without getting a refund and I was to pay the full tariff elsewhere. I barely slept there. I was told by the reception to meet with the director but never got a follow-up to meet with him. My flight had a delay and I asked to extend my check-out for 4 additonal hours since I kept my luggage there; and I was charged extra half-day-tariff.
