HOSTEL Railway — Hotel in Upravna Enota Ljubljana

Where to start! Not only is this hostel right underneath the train tracks so you can hear every single announcement made like it’s being made 5 feet away from you and trains overhead make the place shake, the receptionist is by far and wide the creepiest woman I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting, from using google translate to tell us when we arrived she had been ‘waiting for us’ and ‘does he know we are here?’, she couldn’t speak any English which made check in very difficult. To her unannounced entering the room where the beds are (which is a room where maximum 20 people can sleep!!) and skulking round in the early hours of the morning!!

Also, while undertaking the very occasional once over of cleaning (and by that I mean she probably sprayed febreeze in the air), this lady would be screaming down the phone at someone (honestly couldn’t make this up). However the story goes on and on our second night in the reception area (right next to the room), we heard her arguing in person with a man, both shouting at each other (now I’m partial to a bit of drama as much as the next person, but when it’s late at night and I’m supposed to be staying in an established hostel, it seems a little excessive and distasteful as the so-called employee).

Once the manager returned, he came in to the room to tell us this lady would be fired as he couldn’t trust her, however, he would not do this for ‘2 days’ so we had to continue to be around this strange lady. Furthermore, as if this experience couldn’t get much worse, the entire place is ridden with bed bugs!! After finding a bed bug on our second night, we promptly told the manager and he told us he would move our beds, but that he was also aware of this and had allowed us to book the hostel knowing this was a present issue!!! Reluctantly, we had to stay the night due to being unable to find another solution, and having seen only one bug we figured we might just have to brave it for the night.

That night, just as I was about to go to sleep I noticed several bed bugs scaling the walls of the capsule (which is insanely small by the way, so anyone with claustrophobia who would still be considering this hostel to this point of the review, steer clear it’s like sleeping in a coffin). Unable to sleep in such disgusting and neglectful conditions, the only temporary solution was for us to sleep on the wooden benches in the reception area which provided me with lovely back pain for the next day!! After all of this, we contacted the manager in the morning and told him the harrowing story of our night, with pictures attached, to which we were left without reply, which seems to be a common occurrence after reading just a handful of other reviews.

So, if you like sleeping in a coffin-like, bed bug ridden bed under the train tracks, with unannounced visits from a very creepy lady in the early morning and a crappy hostel manager who knowingly allows people to stay in such dreadful conditions, this is your place! Alternatively, if you are a normal member of society looking for a decent night sleep, steer clear at any cost, you’d sooner have a better night sleep and more pleasant experience in a maximum...

We stayed for a night on August 22, reserved through Booking. The person in charge harassed us on the phone because our train was 15 min late, then yelled at us because he absolutely wanted us to pay by cash (never mentionned previously on the reservation). When we went on the city to the bank, we returned to see 10min later that he was about to give our bed to someone else and still keep the money, leaving us alone in the middle of the night. We had to argue badly to keep our reserved and paid bed for the night ! He got from us an additional fees for the late arrival, it looks like it is an usual practice of him. It was a very stressful stay for our first night in Slovenia, I absolutely not recommand this horrible « hostel  ». Also the single room containing 20+ people was very hot at night, difficult to sleep. Only 2 toilets and 2 shower for all these people. When we wanted to charge our cellphones via USB the phone showed a « transfering data » message, showing that it was linked to a computer ? I felt very stressed and insecure at this place, please do not go especially if you are a...

This place is safe and convenient if you are looking for an overnight stay close to the train station. The location cannot get any better... You have trains running overhead :)

The bed in itself is comfortable. They provide large sized lockers and you can also lock your own 'capsule bed'. So, very safe options there.

But then, don't expect anything else. The place can be claustrophobic if you are. Very little common space. If all the guests are up and about at the same time, you will end up stepping on each other. However it doesn't seem to happen.

For a property with limited options, the price isn't great value
