The hostel had good communication and were able to fix my issue on the phone prior to me arriving a few weeks before with a double booking. Upon arriving, I was told I couldn't get into my room until 3pm and so I left my luggage there in their secure room. When I returned I got checked in by 2 friendly staff and got everything set up.|| I had a room for myself which was nice. The halls were clean and my room was as well. Not a lot of room as the only one I could get was a 3 bed private one. It had 1 bunk bed and the 3rd bed was way up in the loft and I can't imagine how that would be climbing up there and down in the middle of the night without injury.||Bathrooms were clean, though people did tend to leave shampoo and soap in the showers, which isn't all that unusual for a hostel with shared bathrooms.|| The property has games you can play in any of the sitting areas or cafe. The cafe has beer and pizza you can order as well as a few other things I think. In the basement are older stone cells which is interesting and there are some fun sitting room areas for people as well as an outside patio that I saw.|| Cool experience, room was pretty warm and this was in May, couldn't get the thermostat to really do much though, but never bothered to mention it. Staffed 24 hours so easy to check out early in the morning. || The area around it Metelkova has a lot of interesting art and at night bars there which is fun. In the day time and when the bars aren't open though, it can be pretty sketcy and there are signs posted around the area warning about drug use and not to encourage them by buying drugs there. Seemed to be the most sketchy in the daytime actually as when the bars open, it's pretty busy with the bar crowds like me.|| Sleepwise was the only big downfall. The noise from upstairs in the communal sleeping area was loud and depsite the quiet times mentioned at the hotel, people were up and very loud until 2-3am and you could hear everything, entire conversations, laughing, partying and so on. Don't know how anyone could sleep up there let alone in the single rooms without ear plugs.|| All in all a fun one night...
Read moreI have visited Slovenia twice, but never Ljubljana, and on a recent trip to Croatia I decided to put that right.||This Hostel seems to come up a lot in the guide books and on travel blogs, as its "charm" is that it is a former prison.||I thought "why not?" and booked a stay here for my one night in the city.||Located not far from the train station, it is just on the edge of the old town (you are probably a 25-30 minute walk from Prešeren Square, but its a easy walk to do.||The building and rooms are clean enough, and the staff are ok, but as per other review, they go at their pace, not anyone else, so can get annoying when the staff will take longer than it should to look away from the computer screen or up from their phone when standing at the reception waiting to check in or to ask about a shuttle service to the airport.||I had booked a private single room, and it actually did have a good feel to it.||Toilet and shower facilities were spotless, so on the whole was a very enjoyable stay.||My one gripe though was at 2am in the morning, for a full hour there was someone outside the building screaming at the top of their voice (almost like they were in pain or something), and nobody was going to check on them to see what the matter was.||If back in the city again, it does feel like I have been there and done it with this hostel, but if lack of options I would consider...
Read morei originally booked this hostel for three nights (from friday until monday) but i have stayed only for one night. the room that was assigned to me was facing backwards to a courtyard. i checked in in the afternoon at around 3 pm and when i got to my room it was already really noisy (loud music & people screaming outside) - when i asked at the reception if it would be like this also in the night, the receptionist told me that there are several clubs nearby and there could be music until 4 am. she said she could offer me earplugs but that's all she can do - i then shortened my stay and could at least cancel one night and get my money back (because of there 48 hour cancellation policy)
long story short: if you like partying and don't care if you won't hardly get any sleep at night, the hostel might be suitable for you, it's also near the main station, which is convenient. however, if you are looking for more calmer rooms (which you expect when you're booking a room only for 2 instead of several people) & if you are a (female) solo traveller i would avoid this hostel and would recommend to have a look at the negative reviews (which i should have done as well)
p.s. i also got several insect bites over night (which can only be by the bed/bedsheets) and looking at other reviews i'm apparebtly not...
